РАСПРОСТРАНЕНИЕ АНГЛИЙСКОГО ЯЗЫКА И ПРОБЛЕМЫ ВЗАИМОПОНИМАНИЯ*

В статье рассматриваются проблемы взаимопонимания, возникающие при общении на разных локализованных вариантах плюрицентричного английского языка, выступающего в функции языка-посредника. Автор выдвигает три основных параметра успешной межкультурной коммуникации: 1) распознавание / узнавание слова / высказывания (intelligibility); 2) понимание значения слова / высказывания (comprehensibility); 3) трактовка смысла слова / высказывания, осознание намерения говорящего (interpretability). Проведя лингвистический эксперимент, автор доказал неправомерность утверждения о том, что носители английского языка лучше всех понимают его и что их речь – наиболее понятна другим пользователям английского языка.

The article deals with problems of mutual understanding that occur in communication by means of localized varieties of pluricentric Englishas a lingua franca. The author substantiates three main parameters of successful intercultural communication: 1) intelligibility; 2) comprehensibility, and 3) interpretability. On conducting a linguistic experiment, the author has proved that the idea of native English speakers being the best in understanding English varieties and of their speech being best understood by users of English is false.
