New Skills, More Confidence,
and a Greater Understanding of a Different Culture
English lessons were directed towards personal and group growth. While being both fun and interesting, they also challenged the campers to exercise their intelligence, and further promoted the development of their abilities, knowledge, and character.
In the Primary school, the children practiced their language in real-life situations and learnt through actual real-life experiences. They enthusiastically enjoyed shopping, speaking about town and beach life, asking for help at the reception, and ordering ice-cream at the ice-cream parlour. Projects motivated the children to be creative and enhanced the learning experience through visual and hands-on learning. The pupils in the primary school are now able to use their new found knowledge in everyday situations varying from making purchases and asking for help, to giving and asking directions and describing personal abilities.
The secondary school students took part in an exciting and engaging learning experience designed to maximize student participation with team building and project work. To achieve the common goal, the classes were split into smaller groups with a team manager at the head leading the group and acting as an intermediary between the teacher and the group itself. Specific rules were set and the pupils were required to follow them. Teams were rewarded with bonus points and were penalized by losing them. Each team was required to complete a task centered on that day’s topic. Tasks required the teams to work and brainstorm together.
One of the projects done by the 5th Class children was on exploring the creative tiling method that the local people here in Italy use to decorate their entrances. The children were so impressed by the unconventional approach that they immediately expressed a strong desire to create their own. That very evening they made their own personalized nameplates and decorated their hotel room doors.
Classes 6-8 explored the local tourist business in the Campania region. They interviewed local business owners, such as a mozzarella manufacturer, local craft workshop owners and the managers of our hotel. Working in teams, each group made up a questionnaire in order to closely study local business peculiarities. When they had collected all of the necessary information, they took part in a final role play “An interview with a manager”. These activities also benefit the children by improving their social interaction and building their confidence.
The most unique and challenging project integrated both the primary and secondary school children and allowed them to participate in an interactive quiz. Drawing, miming and guessing questions were set up by the secondary school children in order to review material that they and their primary school counterparts had learnt on their educational excursions to different interesting places in Italy. The activity and the competitive atmosphere thrilled the younger participants. The secondary school children had the exceptional chance to act autonomously and independently in this English lesson, by acting as the developers and implementers of the activity. Everyone, both developers and participants, benefit from this experience.

Четвертый класс подводит итоги обучения в начальной школе. Учителя готовы выставить годовые оценки, а ученики с энтузиазмом и свойственным их возрасту задором репетируют праздник окончания начальной школы.

Математика. Изучаем табличное деление и умножение, многие ребята знают таблицу наизусть, но быстро решать примеры на деление получается не у всех. Обращаемся к нашим экспертам по делению. Например, как разделить 15 на 3? Мы вспоминаем пример на умножение, отвечают те, кто делят легко. А Олег Евтушенко предложил ребятам задавать себе вопрос: на какое число надо умножить 3, чтобы получить 15? Казалось бы, так много уроков обсуждали, как делить, но когда дети учат друг друга, всё складывается иначе.

Вот и заканчивается учебный год. Пришло время первоклассникам на уроке русского языка познакомиться с частями речи. Ведь ребята уже знают, что наша речь состоит из предложений. Предложения состоят из слов. Слова — это части предложений в нашей речи. Каждое слово — это частичка предложения. Значит, все слова, которые мы произносим — это части нашей речи. Частей речи в русском языке много. Мы рассмотрели некоторые из них и выяснили, что в нашей речи есть разные слова. Одни слова обозначают предметы и отвечают на вопросы «кто?», «что?». Другие — обозначают признак предмета и отвечают на вопросы «какой?», «какая?», «какое?», «какие?». Есть слова — действия предмета. А ещё есть слова, которые ничего не обозначают и ни на какой вопрос не отвечают, а служат для связи слов в предложении. В русском языке у каждой части речи есть название.
Конечно, наши ребята немного устали! Всю неделю считали с переходом через десяток. Ох, и трудное это дело — делить число на части так, как тебе удобно. Нам-то удобно, чтобы первая часть была поменьше. А для счёта? Пришлось взять в руки счётные палочки.
Очень переживали, читая рассказ Николая Носова «Карасик», и ведь было за кого! За мальчика — вдруг мама его отругает, за Мурзика — вдруг его на улицу выгонят, за карасика — можно ли живое обменять на свисток. Вот какие рассказы бывают!
Мы уже умеем отличить кошку от собаки, можем отличить поросёнка от кошки и собаки. А вот про пароды кошек и собак, узнали только в конце первого класса на уроке естествознания. Решали, уютно ли им в городе. И если уж завели, — то как они о них заботиться.
За этот год мы выучили все буквы английского алфавита, начали читать первые тексты на английском языке, а также все первоклассники научились общаться на английском языке на уроках. Вот такие мы молодцы!
Кроме этого, на этой неделе нас ждал интересный и необычный урок культуры общения. Финалом изучения темы дружбы стал необычный мастер-класс. Мы все вместе получили возможность сделать потрясающий рулет, который так и назывался — «Рулет ДРУЖБЫ». Конечно, чтобы работа удалась, в начале урока играя, мы вспомнили, что поможет нам вместе достичь хорошего результата. После этого всё началось. Имея опыт по изготовлению кулинарных шедевров (макарон), мы уже знали, что настоящие повара должны соблюдать все правила гигиены. Для этого мы помыли руки, надели шапочки, фартуки и перчатки. В полной боевой готовности наши ребята выбрали тот вид деятельности, который им был интересен. Выбор был огромен: ломать печенье, измельчать шоколад, давить орехи, смешивать ингредиенты, резать сухофрукты. Порадовало то, что выполняя эту нелёгкую работу, первоклассники сменяли друг друга. Ярким эпизодом было для нас соединение трудов всех групп. У нас получилась потрясающе вкусно пахнущая масса.
На ассамблее мы поделились своими впечатлениями и рецептом и даже угостили всех присутствующих. Всем досталось! НАСТОЯЩИЙ РУЛЕТ ДРУЖБЫ!
