1. ______ Everyone knows something about New York – the statue of Liberty, the skyscrapers, the beautiful shops on Fifth Avenue, and many theatres of Broadway. This is America’s cultural capital, and her biggest city, with a population of nearly eight million. In the summer it is hot and in winter it can be very cold, but there are hundreds of things to do and see all the year round.
2. _____ There are five parts in New York: Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. Only one of them, the Bronx, is not an island. Manhattan, the smallest island in New York, is the real centre of the city. When people say “New York City” they usually mean Manhattan. Most of the interesting shops, buildings and museums are here, and Manhattan is the scene of New York’s busy night life.
3. _____ Wall Street in Manhattan is the financial heart of the USA and the most important banking centre in the world. It is a street of skyscrapers. Five million people work here every day.
4. _____ Like every big city, New York has its own traffic system. Traffic jams can be terrible, and it’s usually quickest to go by subway. It goes to almost every corner of Manhattan. But be careful at night, it’s better not to go by subway. There are more that 30 000 taxis in New York. They are easy to see, because they are bright yellow.
5. ____ If you really have to drive in New York, remember that nearly all the east-west streets and most of the north-south streets are one way only. This can be difficult for the visitor who doesn’t know his way. Try to get a map that shows the directions of the traffic, and good luck!

Task 6: New York is the city of charm, magic and all-year-round holidays. Every year it celebrates 10 national holidays and organizes about 50 parades. In November they celebrate Thanksgiving Day. Write a postcard with congratulations on Thanksgiving Day to citizens of New York (max - 16 points).

Как загрузить олимпиадную работу через личный кабинет?
а) войти в свой личный кабинет;
б) выбрать слева раздел «Мероприятия» (перед Вами появится список мероприятий, в которых Вы принимали участие ранее или собираетесь принять участие);
в) выбрать щелчком мыши нужное мероприятие (перед Вами появится список участников данного дистанционного мероприятия);
г) напротив каждого участника щелкнуть ссылку «Добавить»;
д) загрузить через кнопку «Обзор» конкурсную работу этого участника, названную его фамилией_именем;
е) нажать кнопку «Загрузить работу».
Перед загрузкой конкурсной работы рекомендуем прочитать раздел «Справка» на сайте (пункты с 17 по 35).
Как узнать, закачалась ли работа Вашего участника через личный кабинет?
а) войти в свой личный кабинет;
б) выбрать слева раздел «Мероприятия» (перед Вами появится список мероприятий, в которых Вы принимали участие ранее или собираетесь принять участие);
в) выбрать щелчком мыши нужное мероприятие (перед Вами появится список участников данного дистанционного мероприятия);
г) в табличке с данными участника есть колонка «Работа». Если Вы ранее закачивали работу, то там значится ссылка «Изменить». Нажимаете на ссылку «Изменить».
д) в появившемся окне есть пункт «Текущая работа». Нажмите ссылку «Скачать». Если загруженная ранее работа успешно закачалась, то все в порядке.
е) Если работа не закачалась, то можно загрузить ее заново.
Если у Вас возникла трудность с закачиванием олимпиадной работы через личный кабинет, то отправляйте работу на наш электронный адрес *****@. Обязательно указывайте в теме письма наименование дистанционного мероприятия (конкурса, викторины, олимпиады), а в тексте письма ФИО координатора, который подал заявку на мероприятие.
Наша электронная почта принимает работы до 10 Мб! Работы большего объема для олимпиады не допускаются.
