The last half of the 16th and the beginning o the 17th centuries are know as the Golden Age of English literature and sometimes it is called “The Age of Shakespeare”

The great poet and dramatist W. Shakespeare is often called by the people “Our national Bard”. He was born in 1564 in Stratford-on-Avon. Here is the house where Shakespeare was born. The church where he was baptized

His family was big, he had seven brothers and sisters. His parents weren`t poor: his father John Shakespeare was a successful businessman. His mother was the daughter of a rich farmer. William`s father wanted to give his son good education. So young William went to a grammar school, where he learnt Latin and studied the literature of Ancient Rome.

At the age of 8 he married Anne Hathaway, who was eight years older than himself. She was the daughter of a farmer. Their first daughter was Susana. After that they had twins

A few years later William went to London where he began to work. At 28 we find Shakespeare well known as an actor. Some years later he became a well known dramatist. Many of his plays were staged at a London theatre called “The Globe”

Аж враз кривава сталась там подія
