It was an amazing day yesterday. We arrived at the Amazon Rainforest early in the morning. The sun was shining when we got there and it was already hot. We had our cameras with us and by nine o’clock we were taking photographs of the beautiful butterflies and other colourful insects. Our guide, Mannola, told us that 80% of all the types of insects in the world live in rainforests.
We went to one place in the Amazon Rainforest where people were cutting trees down. Mannola says this isn’t a good thing, but the people we saw were planting new trees so it was OK. Mannola told us that people cut down about 2,000 trees every minute in the rainforest!
I saw the most beautiful birds in the rainforest. One in five of all the birds in the world live there.
There is also a flower in the rainforest called Rafflesia, which is the biggest flower in the world. It is one metre across. I was looking for one of these flowers all day, but I didn’t see one!
