New From INMA: 2004 Benchmark Survey of Marketing and Sales Expenditures
Newspapers continue to spend approximately 2 percent of revenues marketing themselves, according to the "2004 Benchmark Survey of Newspaper Marketing and Sales Expenditures" published by INMA. The finding is consistent with similar studies of newspaper marketing budgets from the past four years.
The new report is based on a survey of sales and marketing executives at 72 INMA member newspapers conducted in September and October 2004. This represents third consecutive year in which the survey has been conducted, allowing for year-to-year comparisons.
Order the report and see how newspapers break out their marketing expenditures in terms of monies spent on circulation, advertising, public relations, the Internet, and more. Circulation and advertising acquisition and retention are detailed, including marketing methods used and those projected in the next four years -- including how newspapers expect to transition from a reliance on telemarketing and which media will likely benefit. For the first time, circulation marketing expenditures are broken out by whether the newspaper's sales are dominated by subscriptions or single-copy.
Expenditures are compared within circulation groups and among global geographies.
The "2004 Benchmark Survey of Newspaper Marketing and Sales Expenditures" is the perfect benchmarking tool for newspaper marketing and sales operations. The report is available to INMA members for US$35 and to non-member for US$75. Member participants in the survey may contact INMA to receive a free copy of the report. Orders may be placed at the INMA. org bookstore.
