Make или do? А какая разница?
Глаголы MAKE и DO близки в некоторых своих значениях, но они не взаимозаменяемы. Русскоязычные студенты испытывают трудности в выборе между глаголами MAKE и DO в основном потому, что русский глагол «делать, сделать» может иметь значение «создать что-то, что не существовало до того момента», которое является одним из главных значений глагола MAKE в английском языке. |
To do описывает работу: выполнение задачи, задания, работы, какого-либо действия:
to do the ironing– гладить (действие)
to do the laundry – стирать (действие)
to do the washing – мыть посуду (действие)
Все, что относится к слову работа – work/job – опять же в области “to do”:
to do homework
to do housework
to do one’s job
А вот парочка выражений, которые используются только с to do и точка!
to do business with smb
to do the dishes – мыть посуду
to do a favor – оказывать услугу
to do good (at maths) – успевать (по математике)
to do harm – навредить
to do time – отбывать срок в тюрьме
to do one’s best – прилагать усилие/делать все возможное
to do one’s hair/nails – делать прическу/маникюр
Что касается to make, он используется в случаях, когда подразумевается создание чего-то, построение или творение...
to make a dress – скроить платье
to make a cup of tea – заварить чаек :)
to make food = to cook – кстати, если идет речь о еде, используйте всегда make:
to make breakfast/lunch/dinner/ a meal
to make money
Берите во внимание факт, что в таких случаях создается продукт, который можно взять в руки, попробовать и пощупать, в конце концов.
Как и в случае с to do, to make тоже обладает парочкой-другой выражений, которые необходимо запомнить:
