Russian Communication Association Conference-2006

The Russian Communication Association with the participation and support of St. Petersburg Administration and leading St. Petersburg leading universities – St. Petersburg State University, St. Petersburg Petersburg-M. A. Bonch-Bruevich State University for Telecommunications, St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University, Nevsky Institute of Language and Culture, St. Petersburg Institute of Foreign Economic Relations, Economics and Law – announces its third international conference:

Communication and (Re) Making Social Worlds” (Communication-2006).

The National Communication Association and the Internatioal Communication Association areis a the conference partners and information sponsors.

The conference will be held in St. Petersburg, Russia, on June 12-16, 2006.

The conference aims at:

1)  Bringing together domestic and international professionals as well as, educational and scientific research institutions to discuss the following issuesproblems:

-  conceptualizing communication as a social process, the (formative) role of communication in in today’s society a contemporary world

-  foundation of communication theory as an area of study and a research discipline; and its practical applications

-  communication processes analysis in various social contexts

development and institutionalization and development of communication education in Russia

2)  Exchanging communication research and educational experience in the field of communication among scholars of Russia, the NIS, Europe and the USANorth America.

The conference focuses on the following areasissues:

    Philosophy and theory of cCommunication theory and philosophy Organizational, professional, and business communication Interpersonal and small group communication Gender cCommunication gender measurement Computer-mediated communication and advanced information technologies (IT) Mass and media communication Public relations theory and practice Political communication and political rhetoric Communication and culture Communication and education Communication practice(s) and social responsibility

We invite submissions of papers and proposals for During the conference we plan to organize paper panels, roundtables, poster sessions, and master classesworkshops (including GIFTS- great ideas for teaching communication), and student panels for students.

The collection of papersworks will be published before the conference.

Submission of Papers and Acceptance and Selection of ProposalsPapers:

Papers (in the form of abstracts up to 10 pages) and all other proposals (applications for plenary participation,for sessions, and roundtable discussions, and workshops) should be submitted by January 15, 2006.

The organizing committee is entitled to reject papers that are of low quality, do not meet deadlines and submission requirements or are irrelevant to the conference. Works rejected on the above grounds are not reviewed and returned.

The conference registration fee is will be announced in September. Preliminary plans for expenses that will be $500, includeding transfer in the registration fee are airport transportation, paper publication, lunch and coffee-breakslunch, coffee breaks, translation services at the conference, welcome reception, a guided-tour of St. Petersburg, a banquet on a boatmotor-ship, excursion to and a the Hermitage museum tour. Planning for dinner arrangements is not finalized. TheA list of hotelsaccommodations will be available later. The registration fee does not include travel and accommodation costs.

Conference languages are Russian and English.
