My Summer Adventure
The summer of 2012 was unforgettable for me. My mother and I decided to go to the city of Suzdal. This city is located on the River Kamenka, near Vladimir. As soon as we entered the town I was seized with a feeling that I was transported to ancient times. All the houses were made of wood. They were carved, wind boards and a variety of shutters. I immediately felt the spirit of antiquity.
We stopped in an unusual wooden house; it was called "Beehive." When I walked into the house I realized that its name was fully consistent with the interior. There were a lot of bees on the curtains, ceiling, carpets, on the windows, on the table, and even slippers. Of course, they were not real but they looked like alive. I tried to count them but I couldn’t do it. In fact, these bees were collected by the mistress; she even had a little souvenir for everyone who visited her "beehive". We also got it. It was a little bee in a beautiful pink dress and I called it Tweety. There was a small living room, a bedroom and a kitchen in the house. The bedroom was adorned with decorative lights in the shape of bee; the bed was embroidered with large bee. Outside, the whole house was decorated with patterns: beautiful cornices and overhangs, excellent shutters. The whole house looked like a small wooden castle. If I were a queen of bees, I would live in such a fantastic hive )))
There are a large number of monasteries, cathedrals, churches, museums and monuments in Suzdal. Taking a walk around Suzdal I was amazed by the architecture of churches and cathedrals, beautiful icons in churches.
Most of all I liked the Suzdal Kremlin - the oldest part of the city. It is decorated with 15 towers, unusual timber walls and gates. Suzdal Kremlin is a museum. There are a lot of exhibits and icons. The museum was a room in which there were a lot of scrolls, antique books, ink, and candles. Also tthere were beautiful chests of gold.
I was amazed by Nativity Cathedral too. It is the oldest building in Suzdal. The facades of the cathedral are decorated with white stone carvings. We also visited Bishop's House, Cathedral Bell Tower, St. Nicholas Church and Church of the Transfiguration, Pokrovsky Monastery, Demetrius and famous malls. There you can buy everything what you want: knitted mittens and socks, various souvenirs, bread bins, icons, medavuhu, interesting books. Everything is made by hands.
By the way, we had a chance to be guests of the Suzdal festival. Every year on the 19 of August people celebrate Suzdal Apple Savior or the Transfiguration. Everybody eats apples this day.
I also liked the other holidays, traditions and festivals such as: Cucumber Day, "Animated film" Festival, "Russian Fairy Tales" Festival, Mermaid Week etc.
When my mother and I went on a tour, the guide told us about another very interesting thing - Gold Room. This is a rich and colorful exhibition. Here you can see a lot of old and church books. Special attention is required forged bowl of Prince Shumsky.
We also had time to go to the Suzdal prison. We also learned that there were 403 inmates in the prison. Prison is hidden behind a high brick wall, dark corridors and dark chambers, a small prison yard.
Most of all I liked the murals of Gury Nikitin. This is the most important decoration of monasteries, churches and cathedrals. Frescoes write special paints. The combinations of bright colors, expressive lines, make a valuable mural monument. And of course I could not resist the icons. It's true masterpieces of ancient art. I saw a collection of ancient icons in the monastery. The most precious and revered icon is "Trinity." That’s a pity that the exhibition was only a copy of it.
In the conclusion I want to say that Suzdal is one of those cities which tell us about the history of Russia. When Russian people plan their holiday tour they usually go abroad because they have no idea of the beautiful, historical places of our country. I would like everyone to visit this wonderful city, Suzdal.
