Text №1 Halloween
In America people celebrate Halloween on the 31st of October. Children dress up as black cats, skeletons, goblins, witches and monsters. They make jack-o-lanterns. So the traditional colours of Halloween are black, orange and yellow. Children usually say ‘trick or treat’ («угощенье или шутка») to their neighbours. It means that the people, who live next door, can give the boys and girls money, fruit or sweets or children can play a joke on them (над ними шутят). Children like this holiday - they play different party games and have a lot of fun together (веселятся).

Text №2 Thanksgiving Day
Americans celebrate Thanksgiving Day every year, on the fourth Thursday in November. Early settlers in America couldn’t find enough food to eat and many of them died [daid] in the first winter. The Native [ neitiv] Americans helped people to grow vegetables and next year they had enough food to eat. Today Americans remember those difficult times and have family festive (праздничный) dinner with a roast turkey and a pumpkin pie. It is a national holiday and schools and offices are closed. Families get together, put on fancy dresses and costumes (маскарадные костюмы) and have parades with balloons and jokes.
