Topics discussed

- Green Peace representatives expressed their interest in the draft of “The Energy Strategy of Romania for the period 2007 – 2020”, posted on the MEF’s web page for discussions

- Green Peace representatives showed their concern about climate change, issue that they consider necessary to be taken into consideration in an energy strategy

- In this respect, they expressed their concern about the CO2 emissions and about Romania meeting the EU targets from the new European policy document

- They were informed that the strategy contains the measures considered by Romania for supporting the emission reduction, like increasing the energy efficiency up to 3% annually in the analysed period, supporting the use of renewable energy resources for reducing the increase of classic energy resources, using biofuels and environment investments in classic energy.

- Green Peace representatives asked for an alternative scenario to the new nuclear capacity, since they are against any new nuclear groups.

- GDEP representatives mentioned that there are some existing sectoral strategies on energy efficiency and renewable energies, which will be reviewed after the adoption of this draft strategy.

- Also, the guests asked for an environment impact assessment for the energy strategy, according to the provisions of the Directive 2011/42/EC and the precedents in Germany and Czech Republic.
