The Arkangelsk order of Red Banner of Labour Forest Engineering Institute named after V. V. Kuibyshev was established in 1929. In October 1994 it was reorganized into the Arkangelsk State Science and Engineering University. Now it is the Northern Arctic Federal University named after M. V. Lomonosov. It is one the Federal universities founded in 2009 in Russia. NArFU is an institution of higher education and research, which grants academic degrees in a variety of subjects. The Northern Arctic Federal University is the largest university in the North-West of Russia and it is growing rapidly. The University is situated on the right bank of the Northern Dvina. It is housed in several buildings with lots of classrooms and laboratories. The Rector, currently Elena Kudryashova, is the head of the University. The Institute administration is headed by Directors. The University’s structure is quite complicated. It comprises some Institutes and colleges. At present the University provides training in Institute of Forestry, Institute of Theoretical & Applied Chemistry, Institute of Economics, Institute of Oil & Gas, Institute of Information & Space Technologies; Institute of Law & Entrepreneurship; Institute of Architecture and Construction; Institute of Power Engineering & Transport; Institute of Advanced Training; Correspondence Department and others. Each Institute includes several Departments. There are day-time and extramural departments at the university.The University’s academic staff performs research and delivers lectures and seminars. Colleges also arrange teaching for their undergraduates. NArFU offers postgraduate courses in some specialties. NArFU is a scientific and educational centre for different branches of our industry. There are international agreements on scientific and research cooperation with scholars of Poland, Germany, Sweden, the USA, Finland, Japan and Norway. Overseas students in great numbers form a part of the student body of the university. The university trains specialists, bachelors, and masters in many specialties. The University has a developed infrastructure: leisure centre, sports club, stadium with a football field, ski centre, dispensary-sanatorium, health care station. The University has also several dormitories for the students. The majority of the students get a scholarship. Each academic year is divided into 2 semesters. At the end of each semester the students take credit tests and examinations in different subjects. After the examinations the students have summer and winter vacations. |
