Hello, everybody!
Hope you’re fine and ready to do some work
to improve your English. Let’s start!
Recently we’ve learnt something about business etiquette. No doubt, you remember people around the world say hello and goodbye in different ways.
1/. Where do people bow when they greet each other? /Asia/ 2/. Where do people kiss each other on the cheek? /the Middle East/ 3/. Where do people give a firm handshake? /Europe, America/ 4/. Where do people give a soft handshake? /Asia/ 5/. Do you have to bow greeting a person from Japan? /No/ 6/. Should you give a firm handshake greeting a person from Finland? /Yes/ 7/. Should you give a soft handshake greeting 8/. Should you kiss a person from Mongolia? /No/ 9/. What will you do? /’ll say “Pleased to meet you!” and ask “How are you?” 10/. What will you say if you want to introduce smb to smb? /”I’d like you to meet…” or “Let me introduce you to…”/

Does it have any concern to proper greeting and doing a good business?

Take the Cards with task 1. Give a 2- minute talk on the proverb:
“Good beginning – half a battle” concerning to business
Don’t forget to discuss:
- if a proper greeting makes a partner feel pleased;
- if a wrong greeting can make you confused;
- if poor manners can prevent from doing good business.
Please, work in groups of four and work out your position. Then one of you will announce it. You’ve got 3 min. to discuss.
If you need my help I’m always there for you, just press the blue button on your desk.
Please, put on your earphones.

And then when you have greeted each other properly and the introduction has come true there’s a good possibility of small talk between new acquainters.
Try to refresh in your mind how to make a conversation flow. Take the Cards with task 2. Please, ask and answer some questions in groups.
Put on your earphones.
Task 2 Please, ask and answer some questions in groups of 4.
S4 S2
Please, ask… … what the best topics for small talk are. … if it is a good idea to ask questions, why. …what topics should be avoided. …what other aspects of speaking are important if you are eager to impress your partner |

I’ve got one last question
Is it important to speak fluently? Why? /Time is money/

So, what is the purpose of our work today? What are we going to learn to do?
/to make a conversation flow in order to impress a partner speaking fluently with good grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, intonation /.

Our “Business English” course will help us.
Now you’re going to listen to a conversation between a businessman and a colleague. Tick the topics that are suggested to talk about. They’re on the b/b and in your cards with task 3.
1 | - | age | 4 | + why don/t you discuss the weather? | weather |
2 | +what he does for a living | work | 5 | - | marital status |
3 | - | religion | 6 | - | education |
So, what are the topics that are suggested to talk about?
Do you remember what they say exactly?

3 минуты
Now, open your books and turn to page 9.
Listen to ex.7 and complete the conversation, please.
I’ll ask you through your earphones.
/прослушивание диалога, контроль 1 учащегося – аудирование/
Проверка для всех на доске:
1 | small talk |
2 | living |
3 | involves |
4 | discuss |
5 | topic |
6 | marital status |
Look at the b/b and check your answers.
4 минуты
It’s time to work in pairs. Role play the conversation. Don’t forget to change!
/ученики работают в парах в режиме «Парная работа» в наушниках, учитель контролирует произношение, подключаясь то к одному, то к другому дуэту.
3 минуты
Now, make up your own conversation basing on ex.8. Read the task. Is it clear? I think 3 min. will be enough to make up and perform your own conversation.

/учащиеся работают в режиме «Пары» при необходимости вызывая учителя/.
3 минуты
Please, act out your conversation. And all the rest of you be attentive, friendly and make comments on their performance.
1-я пара разыгрывает диалог, остальные учащиеся оценивают: содержание, взаимодействие, грамматика, произношение, интонация, мимика, жесты.
2-я пара.

Домашнее задание
You know your schoolmate Ann from 11A is not sure how to make a conversation flow. Can you give her some advice? Do ex 9 at home. We’ll check it here in class and then let her read your recommendations.

Рефлексия
How do you feel now?
Will you be able to greet a person correctly?
Are you certain that your small talk will flow? You won’t hurt anyone’s feelings by asking wrong questions?
By the way, are these things important only when doing the business?
And the last but not the least, do you like working in this room? Why?
Your marks, please:
S1, (S2, S3) – for speaking /group work/
S4 – for listening /completing the conversation/
S5, S6 (S7, S8) – for acting out a conversation
S9 – for the e-mail
