1. Forming groups

To have a more energetic start, I’d like to offer you one activity to split you into groups. Choose a card and try to find a partner or partners.

2. Slideshow

I’d like to start today’s workshop with some slides. So while watching it I’d like you to think about something you have enjoyed learning e. g. a subject at school or a hobby such as swimming, playing the piano or driving a car.

Think about why you found this experience enjoyable.

SLIDESHOW

After the slideshow

Why did you enjoy the learning experience?

There are likely to be many factors:

· Teachers motivated,

· provided variety,

· took an interest in getting to know the class and finding out your preferred styles of learning.

So we all understand that appreciation of learning styles can help teachers plan the lessons.

But even before teachers learnt about learning style theories, they all knew that

No two children are alike

No two children learn in the identical way

An enriched environment for one student is not necessarily enriched for another

In the classroom we should teach children to think for themselves

3. Working in groups

Now in groups. Could you work with your group and discuss the following questions:

· What do you know about learning styles?

· Do you know what your learning style is?

· Why are learning styles important?

So I hope that you discussed all these questions in your groups. This task will serve as point of comparison at the end of the workshop because by the end of the work shop you’ll be able to

НЕ нашли? Не то? Что вы ищете?

· Describe visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles

· Identify your own learning style

· Consider techniques for identifying your learners’ learning styles

7. Working in groups

Could you take your seats and work with your group to answer the question why learning styles are important.

I’ve also put some ideas of my own considering why learning styles are important.

However, learners should never feel that they are stereotyped and only able to succeed if the task matches their learning style.

So I’ve also prepared some criticisms of learning styles.

Slide.

So I hope that your knowledge on learning styles has improved. I’ve clarified what your learning style is.

May be some of you will choose any of the techniques suggested by me to get to know what learning style your students have.
