The Past Continuous Tense

Past Continuous

Указатели времени: at 5 o’clock, from 3 till 6 o’clock (с 3 до 6 часов), at that moment (в тот момент), at this time yesterday (вчера в это время) etc.

He was doing his homework at five o’clock. –

I got up at 7 oclock.

They were playing in the yard at that moment.

Past Continuous

I sat down on a bench to have a rest. The sun was shining and the birds were singing.

Past Simple.

While Mary was washing the dishes, Jim was cleaning the carpets.
