- Splendid! Let’s start the lesson.

Целеполагание. – Today we are going to continue our work with the theme “Healthy Living”.

Here you see a plan of our lesson:

1. Discussing different life styles.

2. What deadly bad habits people have.

3. Analyzing people’s stories.

4. What we would do( if …)

5. Drawing a conclusion.

(On your desks there are sheets of paper with “Word Support” – old and new words that will help you in your work).

Речевая зарядка. –Today we have a talk show lesson. The theme of our talk show is “How to be healthy”. At the beginning of the talk show I want you to pay attention to the statement of famous American writer Mark Twain (). Will you read it?

“The only way to be healthy is to eat what you don’t want to, drink what you don’t like and do what you don’t want to.”

Is it clear for you? Do you understand it? Do you agree with it? Why? What food is healthy? Do you often eat healthy food? Do you like healthy food? (Don’t you like fruit and vegetables?) Do you get up early? Do you like getting up early? Do you like jogging? Do you go in for sport? Do you have any problems with your health? Is Mark Twain right?

(On the one hand he is right. Many people don’t like cereals, getting up early, jogging. But on the other hand he is not right, because if you want to be healthy you have to get used to do all healthy things). That’s right.

Основной этап урока – ролевая игра “A Talk Show”.

- Проверка домашнего задания.

Now my co-presenter joins us.

Hello. I am glad to see you in our studio. Our today’s talk show is about different lifestyles. You know that some people care about their health, others prefer to enjoy themselves and have rather chaotic lifestyles. And I am sorry to say there are some people who have very dangerous bad habits, such as smoking, drinking too much alcohol, taking drugs.

We have invited to our studio different young people with different opinions on this problem and, of course, people with different lifestyles.

Here we also have a group of experts who will help us draw a conclusion to our topic. (They will listen to our reports and work with some words.)

So, our first guest is O. She says she is a happy person and feels great. Don’t forget to ask your questions.

1. I think it is very important to be fit and healthy and look nice. I pay a lot of attention to my health. Besides, I exercise every day not to gain weight. My Mum says I am mad about my appearance. She is a wonderful cook. She often makes delicious things. But I try to eat only low-fat food, more vegetables which are rich in vitamins and fewer sweets. Fat is thought to be the cause of disease and I don’t want to have unhealthy skin and teeth. And I feel great. All my friends think I look great.

Do you eat high fat food when you have a holiday? Thank you for coming. Our second guest has a bit different opinion. But she is also quite a happy person.

2. I shouldn’t say that my way to live is quite OK. But still I have no problems with my health and I like to enjoy myself. Last year I tried to join a volleyball club. But I’m too lazy to go there twice a week. I like to sleep much and I am fond of snacking. And to have a healthy diet is not always tasty. Of course, I wouldn’t mind eating fruit and vegetables, but I hate milk and cereals. And I adore chocolate bars, ice-cream, cakes and the like. Why should I give up such tasty things?

Do you like fruit? Thank you very much. We’ve got one more guest. It is interesting to listen to her because she has a great many friends.

3. Yes, I’ve got a lot of friends with different likes and dislikes. One of my friends is pleasantly fat in spite of the fact that he is fond of playing hockey. Another of my friends is crazy about her appearance and she is constantly dieting. But on the other hand she can’t live without chocolates. And my best friend Andrew has been smoking for two years. We often have arguments because of this; I want him to give up this bad habit. But he is a real friend and he is very clever, he is good at computers.

Do your friends have bad habits? Could you interfere in other people’s life? Thank you for your story.

-Аудирование

Our last guest is keen on sport. Her name is Lucie. She was going to tell us about her favourite sport but unfortunately she couldn’t come here because she is busy. But she has sent us a sound letter (listening). Will you answer some questions on her letter? And then will you comment on her report? Here is a questionnaire. Choose a correct answer.

Lucie: I joined a judo club last year. I think it’s a good idea for girls to learn self-defence. You don’t have to buy a lot of special equipment. You have to wear white trousers and a white jacket with a belt. The colour of the belt is important because it shows how good you are. My belt is orange. The best judo teachers wear a black belt. In judo you fight on a carpet. There are different ways of scoring points. I like watching judo in the Olympics, but I don’t think I’ll ever be that good!

Answer these questions, please.

Why did she start judo classes? a)to get fit b)for fun c)for self-defence. What colour belt does she wear? a)orange b)green c)black. In judo, you fight a)on the floor b)on a carpet c)in a court.

So do you like her way of living? Is she happy?

-Введение НЛЕ.

New words – Will you read and translate them.

Why do people go in for sport?

-Работа с учебниками.

Unfortunately, some people have bad health habits which are really deadly. Do you know what habits I mean? Our books will help you formulate your arguments against bad habits: p.105, ex.4.

-Чтение.

As you know people often write about their problems to our programme. Here I’ve got some letters. I think it would be interesting for you to read them.

* Liam Brady, 15: “I started smoking when I was twelve. I thought it was cool. But then I learned that tobacco smoke has got four thousand nasty chemicals in it. It’s not good for you at all! Now I want to give up smoking because I smoke a packet of cigarettes a day. I spend all my pocket money on cigarettes and never have money to go out or to buy CDs.”

* Jane Lomas, 16: “I thought smoking was a glamorous thing to do, but it’s not. Now I know it is stupid. It’s bad for you – and your breath and clothes don’t smell very nice! I really want to stop, but it is very difficult. When I want a cigarette, I chew some special chewing gum. That’s really useful for me.”

* Gloria Williams, 58: “My grandson Billie likes sweets and ice-cream very much, that’s why he doesn’t have all his teeth. Yesterday his last tooth fell out! Was Billie sorry about that? Nothing of the kind! He was happy! He said:”Now when I don’t have teeth I can eat ice-cream and sweets as much as I want!”

Express your opinion on the letter using this plan:

-whose letter it is

- what problem the letter is about

- introduce the letter in short

- express your attitude to the problem.

-Автоматизация ранее введённого грамматического материала.

As we can see there are a lot of health problems and people should do their best to lead healthy life not to get ill. Right? So what would you do if you were a mayor of our town?

Look at the blackboard, this diagram will help you to answer the question correctly:

were (V2) would V1

If ______ ======== , ______ ========

-Письмо.

So our talk show is coming to the end. I would like you to write what your idea of a healthy life style is. Write down your answers on your questionnaires.

Thank you very much for your work. And now my co-presenter will sum up what we have done.

3. Заключительный этап урока.

- подведение итогов;

- сообщение комментирование оценок;

- запись и объяснение домашнего задания: p.103-104, ex.1
