Мета. Вчити учнів робити монологічні висловлювання; удосконалювати навички усного мовлення, письма; розвивати мислення учнів, творчість, активність; виховувати правильну позицію й погляди на проблеми, що стосуються підлітків (наркотики, паління, алкоголь).

Тип уроку. Урок-дискусія.

І. Підготовка до сприйняття іншомовного мовлення.

Aim. Повідомлення теми та мети уроку.

Т. Nowadays there are many problems among the teenagers such boys and girls as you are. That’s why we are going to discuss some of them. I hope that such things as fashion and music, drugs, alcohol and smoking are very important for you to know and make your decision on this or that point.

As you know, adolescence is the time in a person’s life when he or she develops from a child into an adult. This period is often associated with great turmoil, stress rebellion and negativism. Now you are at the age when you come to grips with many questions: “Who am I?”, “What am I going to do with life?” , “What is the point of it all?”

Робота в групах.

T. You’ll work in groups. Each group has a task on different subjects. The first problem to discuss is “ Fashion and music”.

Group1. Fashion is the popular style of clothes, hair, behavior etc, at a particular time, that is likely to change.

It is popular with teenagers to wear fashionable clothes. But only few of young people understand that to be dressed fashionable doesn’t always mean to be dressed well.

T. Is a fashionably dressed person always dressed well? (Висловлювання учнів).

2. Нічого надзвичайного в одязі, а враження велике.

Group 1. Sometimes you can see a person who looks well and everybody looks at her or him. There can be nothing unusual in the clothes but the impression is great. Why? (Висловлювання учнів).

3. Батьки купили вам дорогий одяг на вашу вимогу. Що ж далі?

Group 1. You ask your parents to buy a very fashionable thing like the one your best friend has got. You are sure that everybody will look at you only. These clothes are expensive, your parents don’t like the idea, you cry and, at last, they agree. What happens next?

- You put your new outfit but… nobody looks at you. You are disappointed. You can’t understand the reason: your new outfit is fashionable but there is no effect again! You ask for another new clothes…

The next day one of your classmates wears a cheap dress. “Nothing special”, you think, “A simple cut and so on”. But the girl is so pretty in this dress that everybody likes her. Why? I think she has her style, the style of behaviour.

- People do not look at your dressing – they are looking at you.

- If you are friendly looking, smiling and believe in yourself, they will like you.

- If people don’t like the person, even the most fashionable clothes will not improve the situation.

Group 1. Mind that many people usually prefer to communicate with a good person but not with a good sack of money. So, it is very important to find your style, to know what clothes to choose.

T. The second problem to discuss is “Drugs and teenagers”.

Group 2. Every human society uses some drugs to change people’s state of awareness. Drugs can mean everything from cigarettes and alcohol to heroin, opium, cocaine. In our society the main drugs are alcohol, nicotine and caffeine.

Group 2. What pushes teenagers to take drugs?

- There are many reasons. Some people turn to drugs to help relax and cope with the stress and problems of their lives.

- Some experience many pressures at school, work, from parents, friends, they are loved, frightened or frustrated.

- Still others take drugs simply out of curiosity but often become addicted.

- Some people want to make their experiences.

- Many people think that drugs are the best way out. However they do not realize how devastating and dangerous they are.

Group 2. You are right. Drugs which can influence our state of consciousness are very harmful for our health. They affect the nervous system in some way, produce a state a state of arousal in the body, makes us irritable and edgy.

Both natural and synthetic drugs can change our moods, our state of awareness and our perception of reality. They can infect the system leading to sores, jaundice, blood poisoning and AIDS disease. (Учень зачитує факти про СНІД з газети ”Digest” (№19, 1998 р.).

Group 2. What signs indicate that a person is taking drugs?

Group 2. Look at this list of words and divide them into two groups: the reason for taking drugs and the results of taking drugs. Explain your choice.

T. The third problem to discuss is “Smoking”.

Group 3. Don’t smoke. It looks smart in old movies, and seems that everybody does it. But that is just a clever form of advertising. Smoking is unhealthy.

It is unpleasant and harmful to non-smokers, too, and a serious fire risk. It is offensive in public places like cafes and schools. Any form of addiction or excess is unhealthy whether it is tobacco, alcohol, drugs, sugary things, or money. It may be a sign of not growing up and not being able to cope. Do you agree with me?

- Yes, many people in the world even die as a result of smoking. Every year 3 million people die of it.

- Only 13% of the population smoke in the USA, in Britain. Smoking is now forbidden in many public places ( on the underground, on the stations, in the shops, in the theatres and in the cinemas).

Group 3. I’d like to read some extracts from the interviews with the teenagers for your discussion. What do you think about it?

- We must have a strong will.

- We must know what is good and what is harmful for our health.

- Those who smoke are weak because if they see somebody smoking they join them. Only strong people don’t follow the crowd.

T. So, if you want to be a strong personality, quit smoking today if you smoke.

Висловлювання учнів про вживання алкоголю.

Group 3. The same problem for teenagers is alcohol. To drink alcohol or not? This is an old question and everybody decides by himself.

- If not no problems. Avoiding alcohol you save your health and money.

- Drinking alcohol you risk getting problems with your health and family.

- Many people choose what they call “the golden middle”: light alcohol drinks at a holiday table. They have low alcohol level and in small quantities are not harmful for health.

I really need your help. I think I’m alcoholic. I’m 17 and I have a drink every night or I don’t sleep. I go out with friends on Friday and get very drunk. I’ve tried to stop going out, but people say: “Oh, go on” and I go.

I wake up before school needing a drink. At school I’m always thinking about drink so I can’t concentrate.

I’ve started stealing money from my family to buy drink. I need help, so please print this letter. Please help.

ІІІ. Заключна частина уроку.

T. So, it isn’t easy being 15 – 16. It’s the time of conflicting feelings and desires.

You want to go out and have fun, have social life, have a boyfriend or a girlfriend, maybe start serious relationship. I hope you will take into consideration our conversation and think before doing something.

Next time we shall discuss some other problems of teenagers: “Love”, “Stress”.
