“Brain-ring”

Good afternoon, children! It’s so nice to see you all today! As you know we prepared an interesting game for you. It’s called “Brain-ring”. There are two teams here. I hope you’ve already chosen a name and a captain for each team. So let’s discuss the rules of the game. There will be three competitions for you in our game. In the first one you are to answer the questions, and the fastest team will get one point for each right answer. The second competition is the competition of the captains. The captain, who answers faster, will also get one point. And the third task is the task for the whole team. Remember, when you know the answer, put your hands up and don’t shout. OK, let’s begin our game.

1.  Answer the following questions:

§  What key does not lock the door? (A music key)

§  Where does June come before May? (In the dictionary)

§  What is the best place to put the cake in? (In the mouth)

§  Why do we all go to bed? (Because the bed will not come to us)

§  What belongs only to you, and yet is used more by others than by yourself? (Your name)

§  Two geese before a goose, and two geese behind a goose and one goose in the middle. How many geese in all? (Three)

§  What goes up when the rain comes down? (Umbrella)

§  What goes up and never comes down? (Smoke, your age)

§  What has four legs and can fly? (Two birds)

§  Which two letters of the alphabet have eyes? (A and B, because you say: A B C D – A B see D)

§  Which is the longest word in England? (Smiles, because there is a “mile” between the first and the last letter)

2. The competition of the captains. I’ll give you cards with the tasks and in 5 minutes you will have to say the answer.

Card №1. My first is in easy but never in hard,

My second’s in palace but never in guard,

My third is in empty but never in full,

My fourth is in pushing as well as in pull,

My fifth is in hilly but never in flat,

My sixth is in tabby and also in cat;

My seventh is in ankle as well as in knee,

I live in the jungle, my movements are slow,

And I take my trunk with me whenever I go.

Card №2. My first is in brig, never in sail,

My second’s in hill but never in dale,

My third is in orange and also in red,

My fourth’s in alive and also in dead;

My fifth is in food but never in drink,

My sixth is in fur but never in mink,

My last is in seven but never in two;

My whole is an animal seen at the zoo.

And now, while our captains answer the cards, we'll answer some questions too.

1.  Old Smith had a family of sons and daughters. Each daughters had an equal number of brothers and sisters, but each son had twice as many sisters as brothers. How many boys and girls were there in the family?

2.  Molly and Polly

Molly will be three times as old as Polly in three years time. At present Molly is three times as old as Polly will be when Polly is three times as old as she is now. What are their ages?

3.  What is white outside and yellow inside? (an egg)

4.  If your aunt’s brother is not your uncle, what relation is he to you?(father)

5.  Five birds were on the tree. A man shot at them and saw two fall; how many birds were left on the tree? (not any; the other flew away)

3. The last task for you is a riddle.

Riddle №1. We have friends. They

Cannot walk, and cannot see.

But they are very good to you and me.

With these friends we sail

on ships, and ride on trains

and even fly in airplanes.

These friends show us

Towns, seas, and lands.

Can you guess who are

These good friends?
