Omsk State Medical Academy

Center for Linguistics and Cross-Cultural Professional Communication

English in Medicine

29.09.2014 – 03.10.2014

Taking a communicative, task-based and skills-oriented approach, the aim of this course is to build on the knowledge which students have acquired during previous Medical English courses at OSMA. The course will begin with a short placement test to allow the teacher to ascertain student levels according to the CEFR. This will be followed by a needs analysis to determine which areas of Medical English the course participants are already familiar with and which they are most interested in covering during the short intensive course. These initial steps will allow the course teacher to tailor the course to the specific requirements of the students participating. Due to the specific nature of the course (15 teaching hours over 5 days), the main focus will be on training speaking and listening skills. The resources used in the course will be a combination of materials (based on authentic sources) piloted in three Medical English courses at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum in Germany and materials created specifically for this particular course.
