Jefferson	In Congress, the 4th of July, 1776. A declaration by the Representatives of the United States of America, in General Congress assembled. We, therefore, the Representatives of the United States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the World for the Rectitude of our Intentions, do, in the name, and by Authority of the good people of these Colonies, solemnly Publish and Declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be, Free and Independent States.

Washington	A new nation has been born. I congratulate you, dear Mr. Jefferson.
Jefferson	Thank you, Mr. Washington. But it’s only the beginning. We have to think about state symbols.
Washington	You are right as usual. And the first thing we should think about is a flag. I have a sketch of it. Look.
Jefferson	Oh, it’s wonderful! (Считает: 1, 2, 3 …) What do these stripes mean?
Washington	They mean 13 free states. One stripe for one state. And one star for each state. I like it. But I know nobody who can make it.
Jefferson	I think that I can help you. In Philadelphia, in 239 Arch Street lives a young housekeeper Betsy Ross by name. She is said to be the finest needlewoman in the city. Let’s ask her to help in making a new flag.

Washington	Dear Miss Ross, only you can help us. Look at this. (Показывает набросок). Can you make a sample American Flag?
Betsy	Oh, it’s so beautiful! I like it very much! I promise to do my best to make it!

Washington	Now we have to choose the bird as our symbol and emblem. I think it must be a turkey.
Jefferson	A turkey? Why?
Washington	Because it’s a true native of the country.
Jefferson	Oh, no, not turkey. It must be an eagle. Since ancient times eagles have been a sign of power. And our country will be great and powerful!

1.	Thank you, God, for Independence Day, The day I chose to follow your way; The day I chose to depend on you and, Especially, the day you made all things new!
2.	Grateful I am that you opened the door (The door for your people, who came before), The door you created for the ‘land of free’, And for giving the vision of that freedom to be.
3.	I’m grateful, Holy Spirit, for your wise ways; Comforting us through all our days, Counseling us in life matters, galore, And for guiding us through many things more.
4.	Thank you, dear God, for your love, mercy , and grace; Your unconditional love, as I seek your face. Your merciful ways are so awesome, it’s true, And I will ever be grateful for You being You!
1.	I like the 4th of July very much. It’s my favourite holiday!
2.	And I know why. Because you needn’t go to work!
3.	As for me I like fireworks best of all! (зажигает бенгальский огонь)
4.	The best thing is that I can eat as much as possible.
5.	And I like singing. Alice, sing our favourite!
