Main Textbook: “Real Analysis: Modern Techniques and Their Applications,

by Folland

Supplemental Reading: “Real and Complex Analysis”, third edition, by Rudin

Syllabus: We will be covering the major themes of Lebesgue measure theory and integration on R^n, as well as some functional analysis. The course material will roughly correspond to chapters 1-3 and 5-6 of Folland.

Textbook: Folland’s book will be the primary textbook used in the course. Rudin’s book is a good supplement and contains generalizations to measures other than Lebesgue measure.

Coursework: There will be regular homework, due every 1 to 2 weeks with a schedule to be determined. There will also be an in-class midterm and a take-home final. The homework will count for 50 percent of your grade, the midterm 20 percent, and the final exam 30 percent. You may collaborate on the homework, but all solutions must be written in your own words. Collaboration will not be allowed on the exams.
