Saturday, August 20th 10am

The Charlie Brown Christmas Show will include all Dance Company members. There are character parts that need to be cast. If you would like to dance one of these roles then study the persona of the characters below and come to the audition. We will give some choreography and see who is the best at depicting the characters we need. You are welcome to try for more than one character.

Take time to watch the show Charlie Brown Christmas so you know what story we are telling.

If you have any questions please ask Kari.

Character

Description

Charlie Brown

Charlie Brown is a meek, gentle, innocent, kind-hearted character with many anxieties, and is depicted as being shy. He is a child possessed of significant determination and hope, but often fails due to his insecurities

Sally Brown

Sally has a "take it easy" approach to life, preferring to slide by while doing as little work as possible. Sally has a good heart and a strong moral sense; like her older brother she is extremely sensitive to the unfairness of life

Crush on Linus

Lucy van Pelt

very loud-mouthed, violent, aggressive, temperamental, and dumb at rare times. She is also characterized as vain, as she believes she is beautiful and thinks she is perfect

Linus van Pelt

Linus is very intelligent, and acts as the strip's philosopher and theologian, often quoting the Gospels

Schroeder

Despite only playing on a toy piano, Schroeder is a very talented musician, who is obsessed with the music of Beethoven. Since he is Schroeder's "hero", he wants to be like Beethoven. Since Beethoven was a lifelong bachelor, Schroeder thinks he should be the same, rejecting Lucy's love interest in him.

Aside from Snoopy and Linus, Schroeder is Charlie Brown's closest friend. When Violet Gray gave Charlie Brown a used valentine, Schroeder stood up for him and said that he has feelings and that he deserves better. He does seem to be one of the kids who really does respect Charlie Brown, both as a friend, and surprisingly as a manager as well.

Snoopy

Snoopy is a loyal, innocent, imaginative and good-natured beagle who is prone to imagining fantasy lives, including being an author, a college student known as "Joe Cool" and a World War I flying ace

Pig Pen

Though "Pig-Pen" is proud of his uncleanliness, Charlie Brown is the only other Peanuts character to unconditionally accept "Pig-Pen" for who he is, even defending "Pig-Pen's" uncleanliness in one strip (which was re-used in A Charlie Brown Christmas):

Don't think of it as dust. Just think of it as the dirt and dust of far-off lands blowing over here and settling on "Pig-Pen!" It staggers the imagination! He may be carrying the soil that was trod upon by Solomon or Nebuchadnezzar or Genghis Khan!

Franklin

Great dancer, his father fought in Vietnam war

Frieda

The girl with the naturally curly hair. A fetching, kind and charming girl, who throws her deeper goodness away because she wants to be admired for such superficialities as 'being a good conversationalist

Violet

as a jealous girl who likes bragging and, along with her friends Patty (her best friend) and Lucy

Violet is smart, popular, and a snob. She makes her opinions known to everyone, and her haughtiness causes her to often torment other people, whom she views as beneath her.

Woodstock

Woodstock is a small but scrappy yellow bird. For all of Woodstock's acumen and talent, he is physically a very poor flyer, which has been a character trait since he first appeared. He flutters around in erratic fashion, often upside down, and frequently crashes into things.
