Teacher Resource 2
What are the characteristics of Global Ecosystems?
Jigsaw Learning
Divide students into ‘home’ groups of 6 (or 7 if uneven numbers). Label the home groups Group A, B etc.
Students in each home group are numbered 1-6. These are their ‘jigsaw’ groups
Ensure that if you have 7 in a home group, that you spread the extra’s evenly to keep the jigsaw groups as even as possible (for example; Group A has 2 number 1’s, Group B has 2 number 2’s etc).
Students leave their lettered ‘Home’ group and sit in their numbered ‘jigsaw’ group. Each jigsaw group is allocated a global ecosystem and their task is;
To produce an A4 revision sheet for the rest of their home group. This should include;
• Where the ecosystem is located
• Information about the climate, plants and animals of that ecosystem and how they interact together.
When the jigsaw group task is completed, students return to their ‘home’ groups.
|
They each (as a different global ecosystem ‘expert’) feedback to each other about their jigsaw learning ecosystem and explain the revision resource they have produced. Allow time for others in the home group to ask questions or peer assess their jigsaw learning.
