Learning Objectives for the “Top Ten Development Tips to Protect Creeks” PowerPoint presentation

After completing the “Tips” presentation, you will:

Understand the importance of keeping human activities and development away from creeks Learn what plants are appropriate in riparian areas Know what on-line resources are available to find out more information on specific topics

Other Suggestions:

Please feel free to customize the presentation and make it your own and discuss differences between the “Tips” and your community’s policies.

While the “Tips” address many conditions, your community may have some unique characteristics that would allow for modification of the “Tips.” For example in Tip number 6, you may want to list specific plants native to your watershed or non-hybrizing ornamentals.

Incorporate examples from your community into the presentation.

To make the presentation more relevant to your community, use an example of how the “Tips” were either followed or not used in new development or a construction project near a local creek. Add pictures of the development or construction to reinforce the presentation “Tips.”

Share your experiences in delivering the “Tips” presentation with others.

The Santa Clara Basin Watershed Management Initiative Land Use Subgroup (WMI-LUS) is always looking to improve the “Tips” presentation and share best practices on land use decisions to protect our creeks and watersheds. Please email Matt Krupp, WMI-LUS Chair and planner with the City of San Jose (matt. *****@***gov), with new slides and examples and suggestions.
