Mission
To provide financial and practical assistance to community involved individuals in support of their passions and education.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate a history of community involvement.
Scholarship is open to all qualifying applicants regardless of immigration status, age or number of times applied or awarded.
Priority goes to applicants 17 years and older.
Application Guidelines:
Please read all 6 pages of application before submitting.
Send all supplemental documents with your completed application.
Applications postmarked after the deadline will not be accepted.
Faxed or emailed applications will not be accepted.
Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
Applications missing any of the required documents are considered incomplete.
Finalists may be called for interviews to be considered for the scholarship.
Scholarship Awards may range from $250-$1,000.
In your application please include the amount you are requesting and what it will be used for.

The mission of Casa Familiar is to allows the dignity, power, and worth within individuals and families to flourish, by enhancing the quality of life through education, advocacy, service programming, housing and community economic development.
Because of Casa Familiar’s commitment to sustaining the Jack Walsh Scholarship Fund as well as ongoing contributions from the Walsh family, Casa Familiar has awarded over 25 scholarships since 2006. The first 4 scholarships granted through this fund were to 4 students who were volunteers in the community of San Ysidro and members of Casa Familiar’s Young Leaders Program who then went on to attend universities across California, all of whom were first generation college students. Most recent scholarships went to young individuals who received training in Mexico in the area of folkloric dance. We urge individuals of all ages and interests to apply.

Include the following with the complete application:
Letter of recommendation
Each applicant must submit one letter of recommendation. The letter should come from non-relatives and should address the following:
o Relationship to the applicant including time acquainted and in what capacity.
o Goals, aspirations, strengths and weaknesses.
o Community, educational, leadership involvement
o (Emailed or faxed letters of recommendation will not be accepted).
Personal Statement
In a written statement of no more than 800 words, tell us about:
o Why you want to receive the Jack Walsh Renaissance Scholarship?
o Other than your family members, who has inspired you and why?
o Your community involvement?
o Describe your background, family history, upbringing, experiences and obstacles confronted.
o What you are passionate about and what is your personal vision?
o Short and long-term goals personally and professionally?
o Why you chose your field of study/interest.
o What you would use the scholarship money for and how much you are requesting.
o How do you plan to contribute with the scholarship?
