Join Department of Health/SCIE expert group on looked-after children

Seeking frontline professionals to join new expert group on care pathways

Do you want to improve the journey of looked-after children through the care system?

Do you work directly with looked-after children – or know someone who does?

If yes, you could be just what we’re looking for.

The Department of Health and the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) is seeking five frontline professionals with experience of working with looked-after children, care leavers and adopted children with mental health and wellbeing difficulties, to join a national expert group.

We are looking for the following people to join an existing group on this exciting new project:

• a foster carer

• a CAMHS practitioner

• a children’s home worker

• a children and young people’s rights and advocacy worker

• a children and young people’s social worker.

• A designated nurse

Expert group members

You should be passionate about the opportunity this work presents, and have strong interpersonal skills to work on a committee where there will be discussions on complex subjects. You will be committed to coproducing solutions with looked-after children and carers, and committed to principles of equality and diversity.

Expert group members will be expected to attend eight meetings between July 2016 and October 2017. Meetings are held during offices hours in central London and will be approximately three hours long. SCIE will pay reasonable out-of-pocket expenses, including rail fares and hotel costs when necessary, to enable attendance at the Expert Group meetings.

Care pathways project

SCIE has been commissioned by the Department of Health to manage an ambitious project to improve the experiences of looked-after children, care leavers and children adopted from care with mental health and wellbeing difficulties.

The project will involve developing care pathways, models of care and quality standards to help to ensure that looked-after children will have access to high quality services based on a clear assessment of their needs, from a range of professionals working across agencies.
