Motheo TVET College Principal to receive an International Leadership Award in Texas

C:\Users\khobat\Pictures\director.jpgMotheo TVET College Principal, Mrs Dipiloane Phutsisi, will be receiving ‘The Chair Academy’s 2016 Idahlynn Karre International Exemplary Leadership Award for advancing Academic and Administrative Leadership at Motheo TVET College. The award follows the other two awards won by the College in the past two years, namely; the PMR Golden Diamond Arrow Award in 2014 and the PMR Platinum Award for best educational institution in the Free State for 2015.

Under the Leadership of Mrs Dipiloane Phutsisi, the College is making a giant leap and the progress is evident. The College has managed the retention rate of 90% and increased the pass rate. Its certification rate has improved from 6% in 2012 to 53% in 2015. The implementation of 80% class attendance for both Lecturers and students, issuing of textbooks during registration are just some of the strategies introduced at the college that led to this improvements. With the renovations at different campuses and procurement of a building in Zastron, the Satellite in Zastron was operating from a copy shop for many years. In addition, Botshabelo Satellite Campus was dilapidated. The college is continuing to make sure that the environment is conducive for learning and a friendly environment is created for students. The free WIFI hotspots across all campuses and increased bandwidth, is assisting students to access internet freely while at campus in order to do their research, access eBooks and other resources that available to help them with their studies. Motheo TVET College is the first TVET College to offer Free WIFI to students.

Motheo TVET College has promoted 27 staff members; academic staff and support staff and absorbed 4 Accounting technicians, the culture of accountability and strong work ethics inculcated among staff by the Principal contributed to the College’s achievements. Motheo TVET College established partnerships with 9 SETA’s to help advancing youth in the Province through learnerships, these partnerships by Motheo TVET College and SETA’s also see students being placed for practical experience with different organizations. The college also attained an International Accreditation form Association of Accounting Technicians (SA) in 2015 to offer AAT Level 2 – 5. This implies that Motheo TVET College will be the first TVET College in the Country to offer a degree programme.

An Artisan Development Academy is currently being developed and it will not only help students from the Province but from all over South Africa to gain Artisanship training and support National Government’s mandate of producing more Artisans. Except SETA’s there are other partnerships which among others include the British Council-UK, West Lothian College in Scotland, College Quent in Wales and North Link TVET in Cape. In its endeavors’ to support youth, the college is establishing a SEDA Incubator Project worth R4million; this project will help youth in their entrepreneurial skills and making them economically active.

Extra-Mural Programs are supported by the Principal and her team, with their support the College choir won 1st Price in the LEGMA & SATICA choral competitions and was in the Top 5 in the NCF. Motheo TVET College had students who represented the Province in the 2015 athletics held in Pretoria and the college continues to have a soccer team playing in the SAB League. With the college’s achievement under her Leadership, the Principal is worth the ‘Chair Academy’s 2016 Idahlynn Karre Exemplary International Leadership Award’ she will be receiving during March in Texas, USA.
