Cosmopolitanism as the problem of the contemporary social theory
(summary)
The main purpose of this Bachelor thesis is to reveal problem components of classical sociology and policy which are based on container representation about a society, and to reveal therapeutic methods for the decision of the given problems, considered within the limits of contemporary discussion about cosmopolitanism.
Structurally this Paper is divided into three basic parts: (1) revealing classical representation of cosmopolitanism and the present day urgency for discussion about cosmopolitism, (2) consideration of the concept of contemporary societies cosmopolitanization and cosmopolitan sociology (3) revealing the importance of the cosmopolitan democracy concept for formation of the general cosmopolitan future.
The author revealed the features of classical representation of cosmopolitanism in Immanuel Kant’s works in quality an example of possibility of discussion about cosmopolitanism in formation of the national states. Further the author ascertained the urgency for working out cosmopolitanism concepts within the limits of social reality in the second modernity. In this connection cosmopolitan projects were presented as those transformations which are capable to restore the importance of a local context, having included it in processes of global transformations. Further the author represents the description of variety of contemporary concepts of cosmopolitanism. First of all the author addressed to the description of cosmopolitan ethics understanding by Marta Nussbaum. Further the author defined the basic lines of cosmopolitanism interpretation in Ulrich Beck’s works: the understanding of cosmopolitanization as cosmopolitan transformation of contemporary societies and project of cosmopolitan sociology as necessities of creation of knowledge, relevant for such social reality. In this сonnection the concept of cosmopolitan democracy as relevant project for the decision of the problems сconnected with liberalism crisis and national focused policy were presented. Further the criticism of the concept of cosmopolitan democracy by Chantal Mouffe was analyzed. This research has shown that the project of radical democracy and cosmopolitan approaches to democratic processes not so the distant friend from the friend as Mouffe sees it.
This research has revealed that the project of cosmopolitan sociology by Ulrich Beck and the concept of cosmopolitan democracy by David Held are relevant for contemporary sociology transformation and policy concerning realization of the general cosmopolitan future.
On the basis of this Bachelor thesis, there was made a discourse during the international scientific conference «Europe 2009: The new neighbourhood» in European Humanities University (May, 2006), and a scientific article «Cosmopolitanism as a way of life» was published in collected articles of this conference. Later a second discourse «Cosmopolitan citizenship» was made during in the international scientific conference «Europe 2009: The new neighbourhood».
