СТЕПЕНИ СРАВНЕНИЯ ПРИЛАГАТЕЛЬНЫХ.
Существуют три степени сравнения прилагательных (ИП). ИП образуют эти степени двумя способами в зависимости от группы.
Способ 1. К первой группе относятся односложные ИП. Если прилагательное односложное, сравнительная степень образуется при помощи суффикса –er, а превосходная степень – при помощи –est.

Некоторые двусложные прилагательные оканчивающиеся на –y,-er,-ow образуют степени сравнения так же, как и односложные, с помощью суффиксов –er,-est.

Особые случаи:
a) ИП заканчивается на закрытый ударный слог. Конечная согласная
удваивается: sad - sadder-(the) saddest
b) ИП заканчивается на - е, которое убирается: fine - finer-(the)
finest
c) ИП на-у, которое заменяется на - i-: easy - easier-(the) easiest
Способ 2. Ко второй группе относятся остальные двусложные и многосложные ИП. Двусложные прилагательные и прилагательные состоящих из трех или более слогов, образуют сравнительную степень при помощи слова more ( less), а превосходную степень – при помощи слова most ( least).

К третьей группе относятся исключения:

Степени сравнения ИП far, old, late образуются двумя способами.

Некоторые обороты с прилагательными.
1. Оборот as...as... (в утвердительных предложениях) / so...as...
(в отрицательных предложениях).Прилагательное ставится в положительной степени.
She is as fresh as a daisy. Она свежа, как маргаритка.
She was as poor as a church mouse. Она была бедна, как церковная мышь.
Her sister is not so pretty as she is. Ее сестра не такая же хорошенькая ,как она.
The winds in Moscow are not so strong as in Murmansk. В Москве ветры не такие сильные , как в Мурманске.
Примечание: Good - прилагательное, well - наречие, они оба употребляются
в конструкции as.. .as..., но с разными значениями:
as good as - практически; так же верно, как и...
as well a s - в добавок, также
2. Оборот more.. .than.. ./less.. .than... (более/менее)
She is more beautiful than I expected. Она красивее, чем я ожидал.
It is less difficult than I expected. Это менее трудно, чем я ожидал.
3. the more… the better - чем больше, тем лучше.
The more you read, the more you know. Чем больше читаешь, тем больше знаешь.
The more you have the more you want. Чем больше имеешь, тем больше хочется.
