Audio Worksheet 2
Russian for Listening and Speaking
Lesson 2 – урок
Слушайте и повторайте! (Listen and repeat.)
You will hear the basic conjugation of the verb жить (to live, to dwell). Repeat after the speaker.
The infinitive: жить
The first person singular: Я живу.
The second person singular, informal: Ты живёшь
The third person singular, feminine: Она живёт.
The third person singular, masculine: Он живёт.
The first person plural: Мы живём.
The first person singular, formal and second person plural: Вы жиёте.
The third person plural: Они живут.
Слушайте и пишите! (Listen and write.)
Complete the form of the verb “to live” (жить) and then copy the place where the following people live. For example, you see:
Анна Петровна жив_____ в _______________
You hear: “Анна Петровна живёт в Иркутске.”
You then fill in the blanks: Анна Петровна живёт___ в __Иркутске__.
You will hear the sentences twice.
(These are the cities you will hear: Уфа, Санкт-Петербург, Омск, Смоленск, Воронеж, Новгород, Москва)
Я жив_____ в _______________
Ты жив_____ в _______________
Она жив_____ в _______________
Вы жив_____ в _______________
Мы жив_____ в _______________
Они жив_____ в _______________
Зина жив_____ в _______________
You will hear a series of sentences which we will use to express location. The speaker will say each sentence twice. Mark next to the picture the order in which you hear the described location. For example, the first sentence you will hear is: “Мама и сестра были в магазине.” So there is a “1” next to the picture of the store (магазин).

Где эти вещи? Where are these things?
You will hear a series of sentences describing where things are located. They will be either “on,” or “in” a place. You match the objects. For example, you would hear: “Его куртка в машине.” You draw an arrow from the jacket to the car, indicating that the jacket is in the car. You will hear each statement twice.

Now you will hear a series of nouns indicating locations. Repeat each time after the speaker. The first time you hear the word, it will be the regular form. The second time you hear the word, it will have a preposition в or на and the word in the proper locative form, which will indicate “in,” “on,” or “at” a place. For example, you will hear the word стол and then the words на столе. The first word means “table” and the second phrase means “on the table.” Match the Russian with the English equivalents.
стол -- на столе комната -- в комнате Америка -- в Америке лекция -- на лекции дом -- в доме квартира -- в квартире Россия -- в России стена -- на стене университет -- в университете школа -- в школе ресторан -- в ресторане общежитие -- в общежитии город -- в городе улица -- на улице театр -- в театре магазин -- в магазине | …in Russia …in the theater …in the apartment …in a building …at a lecture …in a restaurant …on the wall …in a university …on a table …in the dormitory …in America …on the street …in a store …in the room …in a school …in the city |
Говорите по-русски! Now you talk in Russian.
You will answer the speaker in the negative and give the “correct” information. For example, you hear: “Анна Ивановна живёт в квартире номер один.” You see the word “пять.” You answer “Нет. Она живёт в кваритире номер пять. You will hear each sentence twice. Practice, record your responses, then save the recording.
