Remember how good God has been to you. He has blessed you.

Если вы оставите ГОСПОДА, и будете служить чужим богам, то он повернется и сделает вам вред, и истребит вас, после того как делал добро вам.

Last words

There are certain ways how God persuades His people to repentance, to change, etc.

I. THE LORD MAKES A WAY

  Господь дал путь.

1. It was the Lord that provided them a way (24:1-, 11-15).

  i. He saved you.

Cf. When you were brought out of the land of bondage – by a free gift, many go back into bondage.

Gal. 4:3-5, 9

  ILL. Lady thought she was pretty. Went to a photographer. The pictures didn’t turn out right. 

  “These pictures don’t do me justice.”

  “Lady what you need is not justice, but MERCY!”

  ILL. How easily we fall and need mercy. 

2. The Lord made a way. (Jn.14:6)

II. THE LORD HAS LEAD AND PREPARED A PLACE

  Господь вел их и приготовил им место

God not only brought them out of bondage, but He lead them to the Promised Land (Josh. 24:13)

  ILL. Big Lucy thought she had the word of God.

  When she saw that in the AV God promised a MANSION (Jn. 14:1, 2), she got rid of the perverted translation.

1. He has promised to lead you right to your GIGANTIC MANSION.

  i. That should be enough to help you to repent of any waywardness.

  ILL. No more dying, crying, no more pain for us to bear.

III. HE HAS PRESERVED US (v. 17)

  Он хранил их

1. He bought us ETERNALLY

17 Ибо ГОСПОДЬ Бог наш, это тот, кто вывел нас и отцов наших из земли египетской, из дома неволи, и который делал пред глазами нашими те великие знамения, и ХРАНИЛ (preserved) нас на всем пути, по которому мы шли, и среди всего народа, через который мы проходили:

Eph. 4:30

И не огорчайте святого Духа Божьего, которым вы запечатаны ко дню искупления.

He sealed me. You got saved FOREVER

How easy is it to be saved.

There are many who have had to stop and think about getting saved but knew that they would be persecuted if they did.

You’ve not had to deal with any persecution. God has made it pretty easy for you.

Has not been good to you?

IV. THE CRUX OF THE WAY (v. 15)

1. You have to CHOOSE WHO you are going to SERVE.

  Are you going to serve the gods of the heathen, Ammorites, Hittites, etc.

Or are you going to serve the Lord.

Rom. 6:16 Разве не знаете, что кому вы отдаете себя [в] слуги для послушания, его слуги вы [и] есть, кого вы слушаетесь; то ли греха к смерти, то ли послушания к праведности?

2. Many are seeking the wrong things. That is why they are never satisfied.

The reason why people are having serious problems is because they have not chosen WHAT THE BOOK SAYS.

V. THEIR RESPONSE IS POSITIVE (vss. 18, 21, 23, 24)

  Их ответ - положительный

1. But they couldn’t serve the Lord.

  i. They didn’t get rid of their strange gods.

  ii. They wanted to add God to their other gods.

  iii. They refused any negative issue. The negative precedes the positive as destruction precedes construction and travail precedes birth.

2. They couldn’t really serve the Lord. They had strange gods (v. 20)

  i. Look what happened after the death of Joshua (Judg. 2:1-13).

  ii. They never got rid of the images, not even in the wilderness (Acts 7:43).

И взяли вы скинию Молоха, и звезду бога вашего Ремфана, изображения, которые вы сделали, чтобы поклоняться им: и я уведу вас за Вавилон.

3. You have to be straight. No hiding. No hypocrisy. Give up the HIDDEN gods in the heart.

  i. That’s why Joshua said (Josh. 24:14)

  ii. NOT in the Synodal as in the AV.

VI. MEMORY OF THE WAY (v. 22, 25)

1. One the best ways to remember your witness is to tell others.

Prov. 17 Железо железо острит; так человек острит взгляд друга своего.

Good company to help you stay closer to the Lord.

Avoid complainers.

(Josh. 24:26)  ¶ И написал Иошуа слова эти в книге закона Божьего, и взял большой камень, и поставил его там под дубом, который подле святилища ГОСПОДНЕГО.

2. You’ve got things written in a BOOK to remember how good God has been to you.

  It’s recorded, for you, for you to memorize.

  To help you follow the Lord. To help you serve. To help you get rid of gods of this world. 

VII. HE CHALLENGED THEM (vss. 14, 15, 23, 24)

  Он бросил им вызов.

14 ¶ Tеперь поэтому бойтесь ГОСПОДА, и служите ему в искренности и в истине: и удалите богов, которым служили отцы ваши на другой стороне потока, и в Египте; и служите ГОСПОДУ.

15 А если служить ГОСПОДУ вам кажется злым, изберите себе сегодня, кому вы будете служить; богам ли, которым служили отцы ваши, что были на другой стороне потока, или богам аморитов, в земле которых вы живете: но что до меня и дома моего, мы будем служить ГОСПОДУ.

1. Joshua chose to serve the Lord. He didn’t have to confer to his wife.

  ILL. Household salvation (Acts 16:31)

что я должен делать, чтобы спастись?

31 И они сказали, Поверь в Господа Иисуса Христа, и спасешься ты, и дом твой.

  ILL. Mrs. Joshua had spent nearly 40 years as a slave in Egypt,

  Followed by 40 years as a wondering nomad in the wilderness,

  And then had to sit at hope 30 years while her husband was fighting all over Palestine.

  Joshua spake for her and the whole household.

  ILL. No turning back. General facing an army far superior and outnumbered. He could have fled by way of a bridge to retreat. He replied, “We must burn the bridge. It is either victory or death.”

Don’t keep some worldly escape.

Heb. 11:25 Избрав лучше терпеть скорбь с народом Божьим, чем наслаждаться удовольствиями греха какое­то время;

Tsu, “Put the army in the face of death where there is no escape and they will not flee or be afraid. There is nothing they cannot achieve.

  ILL. Exod. 14:3 Ибо скажет фараон о детях Израиля, Они запутались в земле этой, заперла их дикая местность.

Israel was entrapped in the wilderness. There was seemingly no escape. But there was –

To stand still see the salvation of God. The Lord parted the waters.

¶ И сказал Моисей народу, Не бойтесь, стойте, и смотрите спасение ГОСПОДНЕ, которое он покажет вам сегодня: ибо египтян, которых видели вы сегодня, больше не увидите во веки.

14 ГОСПОДЬ будет сражаться за вас, а вы соблюдайте спокойствие.

When men are on “death ground” they become transformed, overnight fearless fighters.

They will fight with all that they have in order to get the victory.

  ILL. Normandy. There was no place to retreat. Therefore the allies would get the victory.

  ILL. When in doubt, FORWARD.

  ILL. Pastor in “red” China in the 19th century was brought in before the Red Army before his son. After beating the father in front of his son, they

You can cut my head off. You can spill my blood. But I will never forsake Jesus Christ. He’s been faithful to me. He’s blessed me for many years. And nothing you can do will ever make me renounce my loving friend and Saviour.”

And now 3 generations of followers have come from that. 

What about you. Are you going to give up after God has been so good to you.

Are you going to be a stumbling block to so many others? Just because it has gotten a bit difficult?

Conclusion

Do not miss the opportunity to do what God wants. It might be too late.

Do not boast about tomorrow. A lot can happen to you in a day.

Invitation

Rom. 2:3, 4

3 И думаешь ли ты, О человек, который судишь тех, кто делает такое, и делаешь то же, что избежишь суда Божьего?

4 Или презираешь богатство его доброты и воздержания и долготерпения; не зная, что доброта Божья ведет тебя к покаянию?

The Lord uses His goodness to get you to repent; a mansion, eternal security, His love, etc.

But mercy runs out if you continue sinning, doing evil.

Saved

  ILL. A saved man hid a sin that nobody knew about. He was finally caught by the law. He got many years in jail for that sin. He regretted that he didn’t get rid of that ‘god.’

  ILL. “I’m disappointed in you. You know, I’ve done so many things to help you get on the right path. I’m just disappointed in you.”

  ILL. Why the arguing? Why the anger? We disappoint others? For what? When God has been so good to you.

  ILL. I got saved partly because I disappointed my father.

Oh God! Help me to serve you for all of your goodness to me. 

2 Благослови ГОСПОДА, О душа моя, и не забывай всех благодеяний его:

3 Который прощает все беззакония твои; который исцеляет все болезни твои;

4 Который искупает от уничтожения жизнь твою; который венчает тебя любящей добротой и нежными милостями;

5 Который насыщает добрым уста твои; так что обновляется, подобно орлиной, юность твоя.

Psa. 18:35

Ты также дал мне щит спасения твоего: и правая кисть твоя поддержала меня, и мягкость твоя сделала великим меня.

Rom. 2:4

Или презираешь богатство его доброты и воздержания и долготерпения; не зная, что доброта Божья ведет тебя к покаянию?
