Teacher: Hello, dear pupils and teachers. I am glad to see all of you today at our Teachers’ Battle competition. No, it is not what you imagine. Today, two teams of students will “fight” with each other. We need two teams of 5 people in each. The first team is called “Science” (естественные науки) the other team is called “Humanities” (гуманитарные науки).

Teacher: So, here we go. We have two teams of “teachers” now. These are teachers of Science and teachers of Humanities. Before we start our battle, let me first introduce you our respected court. These are: Nadezhda Nikolayevna, Julia Mikhaylovna and Darina Olegovna. Our court will give you points and calculate scores. In the end we’ll decide who is the winner.

Let’s start our contest.

First of all, I will need both teams, and maybe the audience to participate. Let’s start with the rap-battle. I will turn on the rap-beat, you are to say the words of the song. Be sure, you know them.

The microphone I Take (took, taken). You shake (shook, shaken).

Wake (woke, woken) to the style I’m creating.

Think (thought, thought). Seek (sought, sought).

Listen to the lesson that teach (taught, taught).

Don’t sleep (slept, slept). I creep (crept, crept).

I sneak (snuck, snuck UP). You leap (leapt, leapt).

I keep (kept, kept) having fun.

I’m never beat (beat, beaten); I win (won, won).

Do (did, done). Begin (began, begun).

Shoot (shot, shot) – no, I don’t own a gun.

I lead (led, led) so I can feed (fed, fed).

The knowledge you need, straight to your head.

Teacher: Good job, kids. So, Task 1 is to enumerate the qualities of a good teacher. I need 1 person from each team. You are given 30 seconds to characterize a teacher.

Teacher: Thank you, dear participants. It was brilliant. Now, we move to the Task 2. I will read some riddles. You are to guess. Please, don’t shout. Put up your hands.

Riddles about School

What is it that looks like a ball,

But stands still and does not fall

Off its thin and graceful legs?

Children like to turn it round,

Rivers, mountains, lakes are found,

Countries, states and their towns

Can be seen all around.

What is it?

                                       (A globe.)

Boys and girls are two-legged creatures

And they run about a lot;

Mine is a different kind of features

And although I am four-legged,

I stand still as you can see,

The teacher puts his things on me,

The whole day I serve the school

And this I am very proud to do.

What am I?

                                       (A table.)

The teacher writes

On me with chalk,

My face is black,

I cannot talk.

What am I?

                                       (A blackboard.)

My face is black,

As black as night.

On it with chalk,

All pupils write.

All right!

But it is disgrace

When they forget

To wipe my face.

                                       (A blackboard.)

What table has no legs?

                                       (A time-table.)

If you want

To draw a straight line,

Make use of me,

For this business is mine.

                                       (A ruler.)

I have got cities but no houses,

Forests but no trees;

Rivers without water.

What am I?

                                       (A map.)

In my house there is a smaller house

With windows and doors

And only one person living in it – Knowledge.

What is it?

                                       (A bookcase.)

It is not a bush, but has leaves;

It is not a shirt, but is sewn together;

It has no tongue, but tells a tale.

                                       (A book.)

  The field is white,

Black is the seed,

And the sower who sowed it

Was clever indeed.

                                       (A page in a book.)

He is not French, he is not Greek;

He tells us how to write and speak,

But in a language not our own –

Which none of us could do alone.

What is he?

                                       (A teacher.)

What word of three syllables contains twenty-six letters?

                                       (Alphabet.)

What is it you keep in your schoolbag and that shows how you learn your lessons?

                                       (Your daybook.)

Your teacher puts marks in it.

                                       (A daybook.)

What tells you the answers, but gets you bad marks and is not a person?

                                       (A crib.)

What is small and black,

With a tail and a bent back.

It doesn't bark, it doesn't bite,

But it doesn't let you pass

From one form to the next.

                                       (A «two».)

This little traveller

Is very strong.

He takes a drink of water

And runs a thousand miles.

Before he starts,

He takes off his hat.

When he rests,

He puts it on.

                                       (A fountain pen.)

A black fellow in a wooden cloak,

Wherever he turns his nose

He makes a black mark.

                                       (A pencil.)

Is writing on an empty stomach harmful?

                                       (No, but paper's better.)

The black snow lays on the white ground.

                                       (A paper and characters.)

This little mark,

All so plump and round,

At the end of sentences

Is to be found.

                                       (A full stop.)

An old gentleman, bent with age,

Is asking questions on every page.

                                       (A question-mark.)

A disgusting, unwanted guest

Stopped on a page of my notebook to rest.

The teacher saw him, and so did the class.

I got a poor mark. I deserve it, alas!

                                       (A blot.)

What are the tallest buildings in the world?

(Libraries: they have so many stories.)

Teacher: I see you are all very intelligent. Like all the teachers should be. Task 3. Now I will ask each team to do the following. You are to show the school objects, using only mimics and pantomime. I will invite each person out of each team. I will give you a card with the word. You are to show it so that both teams should guess.

Teacher: Thank you students, I hope you had fun during this task. Let’s go ahead. The next Task 4 is to explain your subjects: science and humanities. I will distribute the cards with your subjects. I will give you all 3 minutes to get ready.

While our participants are busy with the task. Our audience will be busy too. Let’s play Associations game. Let’s start with the word AUTUMN, give your associations to the following words.

Teacher: Now it is the time for our final Task 5. Each team is to make a list of recommendations for a student to have a success at his studies. Make up sentences using the modal verb should. There will be no time for preparation. You will do it on the spot.

Teacher: This is over, dear participants. It is high time our jury share your results with us. And we learn who the winners are.

Teacher: Thank you dear court and dear participants. Let’s applaud to all of our students. Now take your greeting cards and present them for all our teachers.
