Discovering places of interest in London.

Цель: знакомство с некоторыми достопримечательностями Лондона (Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, the Tower of London, the Houses of Parliament).

Задачи:

Развивать навыки устной речи на основе информации  о Лондоне. Тренировать в аудировании. Практиковать в чтении с целью извлечения информации  и детальном чтении. Развивать языковую догадку на основе незнакомых слов. Прививать интерес к изучаемому иностранному языку.

Оснащение: карта Лондона, презентация, запись на доске  названий достопримечательностей  в транскрипции, карточки с заданием, компьютер, видеоролики о достопримечательностях Лондона.

Ход урока:

1. Good afternoon girls and boys. Nice to meet you! Sit down please. I’m your teacher for today. My name is O. V.

2. Today we are going to travel. Do you like travelling?

Look at the blackboard: “What country are we going to travel?” (1 слайд). You are right. We are going to London.

3. As you know there are lots of sights in London. But today we are going to visit only 4 of them. (2 слайд).

Please, repeat after me: Big Ben, the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament. Please, read the words by yourselves. Match the words and their translation. (карточки на доске)

4. You are ready to travel! Take our map and let’s go! (3 слайд-карта). You have the same map in your textbook on page №94. It is a map of London. And we can visit Big Ben, please, find…in our map (the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament). You are good. How can we travel? What can we travel by? Please, choose: (4 слайд). We can travel by boat. (5 слайд-карта). But we have a lot of people and we need three boats. You are in the first boat, you are in the second one and you are in the third boat.  We need a captain in each boat. Choose your captain. Who is your captain? (I’m a captain). Let’s go! Look at the map.

Our first stop is the Houses of Parliament. (6 слайд). (карточки с заданиями)  I’ll read you about the Houses of Parliament and then you’ll answer my questions. Look at your card please. Read your questions: Who sits in the Houses of Parliament? What stands near  the Houses of Parliament?

The British Parliament sits in the building which is called the Palace of Westminster. It’s also called the Houses of Parliament. The Houses of Parliament stand beside the river Thames. The famous clock Big Ben stands near  the Houses of Parliament. The Houses of Parliament is a very large and old building.

Answer the first (the second) question.

Look at the map. Our second stop is Big Ben. (карточки). Let’s watch a film, then read about Big Ben and answer – “What is Big Ben? (a clock or a bell) (8 слайд-ролик). Read the text. Who wants?

Big Ben is a bell in the clock tower in London. It’s the symbol of Great Britain and one of the most beautiful sights of London. It’s one of the highest towers of Westminster Palace. You can hear Big Ben every hour.

What is Big Ben? It is a bell. Say a few words about Big Ben.

Are you tired? Have a rest. Please, stand up. Do you remember our song “Clap your hands”? (музыка)

6. (9 слайд-карта). Our next stop is Westminster Abbey. (10 слайд).

  I want to tell you about the history of Westminster Abbey.

Standing not far from the Houses of Parliament is Westminster Abbey, a symbol of England. The legend says that St Peter (святой Петр) founded Westminster Abbey. We know that Westminster Abbey was built by King Edward in 1065. Some famous English people are buried (похоронены)  here. Today, Westminster Abbey is a working church (церковь) and a great monument to the history of England.
