I. Read and translate the text.

ГДЕ И КАК НАНЯТЬ СОТРУДНИКА?

       У работодателя есть несколько опций возможных вариантов действий, когда он хочет нанять нового сотрудника. В первую очередь, он может посмотреть в своей собственной компании. Но если он не может найти никого подходящего для данной должности, он должен посмотреть за пределами компании. Если в компании есть департамент по управлению персоналом, он может попросить, чтобы они помогли ему подобрать  кандидата с хорошей квалификацией. Работодатель может также использовать другие ценные источники, например, бюро по трудоустройству, консалтинговые фирмы, конторы по определению на работу и профессиональные социальные сети. Он может также распространить объявления в газетах и журналах и попросить кандидатов отправлять резюме.

Работодатель должен принять во внимание два качества, которые необходимо учесть, при выборе человека из числа претендентов. Он должен рассматривать как профессиональную квалификацию, так и персональные характеристики. Профессиональная характеристика включает в себя образование кандидата, его опыт и навыки. Они могут быть перечислены в резюме.

Личностные характеристики и черты характера должны быть оценены посредством интервью.

III. Answer the questions.

1. Which options should an employer first consider if he wants to hire a new employee? - First of all, he may look within his own company. But if he can't find anybody suitable for the position he will have to look outside the company.

2. What service does a personnel department provide? - Help in looking for a qualified applicant.

3. How can new employees be recruited? - The employer can also use other valuable sources, for example, employment agencies, consulting firms, placement offices and professional societies. He can also advertise in a newspaper or in a magazine and request candidates to send in resumes.

4. What qualifications are to be considered in choosing a new employee? - He must consider both professional qualifications and personal characteristics.

5. What is meant by «professional qualification» for a job? - A candidate's education, experience and skills are included in his professional qualifications.

6. How are personal characteristics evaluated? - Personal characteristics, or personality traits must be evaluated through interviews.

7. What personal characteristics do you think are considered suitable for a job? – Mental stiffnes & strength, responsibility to your colleagues.

IV. Grammar and sentence structure.

A. In each sentence, underline the verb and circle the subject.

1. Income-generating home offices are a growing phenomenon.

2. Since the mid-1990s, more than 40 million U. S. households have contained a home office.

4. They run home-based businesses ranging from baby-sitting agencies to financial consultants.

B. Underline every adjective in this letter. Then draw an arrow to the noun it is describing.

D. First change these adjectives into adverbs. Then use each new adverb in a sentence:

E. Underline every adverb in this memo. Then draw an arrow to the verb it is describing.

At your request, I have looked carefully into the problem of mailroom delays. Departments are receiving mail belatedly for a number of reasons:

1 Some mail is addressed improperly. So it is sent initially to the wrong department and must later be forwarded.

2 The mailroom is understaffed. The clerks handle mail as promptly as possible. But they get to each department slowly. They cannot cover all the departments efficiently.

This problem must be dealt with plaints are mounting daily.
