Some stores sell inexpensive remnants of material — wool, cotton, silk — which some women use for making skirts or dresses.

When you ask the shop-assistant to give you a length of cloth you need she cuts the cloth according to the desired length. You pay the money and go off.

When you come home you start the work. It takes a lot of attention and skill, and time too. You spread the cloth on the table and take all the measurements. After that you begin to sew. When you finish the work and put the dress on, you look in the mirror. At long last you made a dress with your own hands. After all it was not that difficult. You've made it.
