Halloween sounds like great fun! My favourite celebration here is Maslenitsa or Pancake Day. We eat lots of Russian pancakes, called blini. There's lots of music, dancing and theatre. Maslenitsa welcomes the coming of sunshine in the spring and at the end of the festival a figure representing winter is burnt on a bonfire. There's still plenty of snow around to play snowballs. Other popular celebrations are New Year, especially for young children, and Victory Day.

Our planet is a tiny part of a great unknown universe and, perhaps, it is the only place for human beings to live. It goes without saying that we should take care of it and protect it.
The Earth is sure to be in danger now. There are a lot of ecological problems such as different kinds of pollution(air, water and soil), global warming, overpopulation and some others. It is said that every 10 minutes on our planet some animal or plant dies out. It may look as a terrible threat and who is to blame for it? The answer issimple as ABC. People living on the planet pay little attention to the way they treat their home.
The forests are cut down or burnt. The trees disappearing, the quantity of oxygen is being reduced. Moreover the quality of air is becoming worse. It is caused by numerous chemical emissions. Industrial and nuclear waste is the other reason for the Earth pollution. Big cities produce tons of harmful substances and it seems to havedisastrous consequences for the planet. Our rivers and lakes are poisoned with pesticides and fertilizers used by farmers. So to say, we have a great number of problems to solve as quickly as possible.
It may seem surprising but we have enough time, money and even working methods to succeed inenvironmental rescue. People should pay much attention to litter recycling, using energy-saving technologiesand other things to improve the environment. It is not so difficult to plant a tree or to put the garbage into the bin.
So, everything is in our hands. Let’s make our planet cleaner and safer, and our issue will thank us.
We live in the 21st century when there a lot of ecological problems because of human beings actions. | |
There are a lot of serious environmental problems such as air pollution, water pollution, nuclear pollution, litter, noise and many others. |
There are a lot of factories which throw waste and pollute rivers and seas. | |
The most dangerous and unpleasant of them is the destruction of wildlife. | |
A lot of wild animals die every day because of the pollution. | |
People use a lot of chemicals which destroy the ozone layer. | |
But if people want to survive and have a future for their children they should take care of nature and the environment. |
We shouldn’t pollute air and water. | |
To begin with, we must protect the environment and not litter. For example, to throw garbage away into litter - bins and to get people involved in clean-up programmes. As a result, streets will be cleaner, than they are now.
Air and water pollution is a big problem. Lots of chemical enterprises, mines and exhaust fumes from cars pollute the air in our region. If we want to change the situation, people should walk more or ride bicycles, and factories mustn`t give off dangerous fumes and waste polluting rivers and air. Only then air and water will be cleaner.
One way to reduce traffic is to improve public transport and encourage people to use it to commute to work and to school. The result would be fewer cars in the town and, consequently, fewer traffic jams.
