13 Ибо когда Бог дал обещание Аврааму, так как он не мог поклясться большим, он поклялся самим собой,
14 Говоря, Непременно благословляя благословлю тебя, и умножая умножу тебя.
15 И так, после того, как он терпеливо перенес, он обрел обещание.
16 Ибо люди воистину клянутся большим: и клятва для подтверждения является для них окончанием всякого спора.
17 В чем Бог, желая более обильно показать наследникам обещания непреложность (unchangeable) своей воли, подтвердил ее клятвой: (concerning the land given to him and his seed)
18 Чтобы благодаря двум непреложным вещам, (the promise and the oath are both immutable, v. 17) в которых невозможно для Бога солгать, имели твердое успокоение (strong consolation) мы, которые убежали в убежище, чтобы ухватиться за надежду, поставленную перед нами:
19 Надежду, (first for Tribulation saints, and also for true believers in Christ) которую мы имеем как якорь души, и надежный (sure) и прочный (stedfast), и который входит в то, что внутри за завесой; (the third heaven).
20 Куда вошел ЗА нас предтеча, именно Иисус, сделанный первосвященником навечно по чину Мелхиседека.
Storms come – fears,
ILL. “I hope I’m going to heaven” Then you’re not saved.
Hope here in the text means – that which you already have, the Lord Jesus Christ (v. 19)

I. THE ANCHOR IS TIED TO THE SHIP Якорь привязаны к кораблю.
An anchor is connected to the ship.
We are in union with Him. Therefore our anchor
Christ entered in on behalf of His people.
1. (v. 18) A saved man has a STRONG CONSOLATION because he has already “layed hold” of that anchor.
The more you walk with him the more experience you have. The more hope you have. The stronger your consolation becomes.
Rom. 5:
3 И не только это, но мы хвалимся в скорбях также: зная, что скорбь производит терпение;
4 А терпение, опыт; а опыт, надежду:
5 А надежда не постыжает;
ILL. Ships at port but have seen many wars.
2. You can’t see the anchor – Jesus Christ. That is why you’re to hope.
i. There is only One, True Anchor.
3. The anchor works best when it is not seen. (v. 19) и который входит в то, что внутри за завесой; (the third heaven).
An anchor is not seen when being used. Then you need not hope.
But that which is not seen then you hope.
Without that anchor, there is no stability of the ship during the storm.
That anchor cannot fail; as the storm worsens the anchor grips more so.
Our object of hope is already in Heaven. He is our Blessed Hope. He cannot lie. He saved you and He saved you eternally.
Rom. 8:24

II. THE ANCHOR HELPS YOU FROM SHIPWRECK
Якорь оберегает вас от кораблекрушения
В мире будете иметь скорбь:
ILL. Storms come: wars, sickness, Force major, deaths, etc.
ILL. Job: all of Jobs kids were KILLED.
ILL. How Paul could stand Acts 27:15 –
(v. 21) “be of good cheer”
Confidence – God told him.
His anchor – Jesus Christ could not lie. God said it.
III. AN ANCHOR HELPS YOU FROM HERESIES
1. The word of God written is a strong consolation
Eph. 4:14 Чтобы впредь мы не были больше детьми, швыряемыми туда и сюда, и носимыми всяким ветром доктрины, по ловкости человеков, и искусному лукавству, посредством чего они подстерегают, чтобы обмануть;

IV. AN ANCHOR HELPS YOU FACE THE STORMS
1. The anchor will help you face your sins.
2. The anchor will help you stand against the tide. прилив и отлив (на море, океане)
i. Who is that anchor? It is Jesus Christ Himself is the soul’s Anchor.
Who is entered within the veil as our Hope (v. 19). Куда вошел за нас предтеча, именно Иисус, (v. 20).
ii. What does an anchor do? It keeps the ship steady.
iii. How this anchor was formed. The anchor is both God and man. “Christ our Hope” as an Anchor. He was severely tested, being tried by God, man, and devils, and is abundantly able to bear any strain that may be put upon Him.
iv. How this Anchor is to be had.
All who have fled for refuge, by laying hold of Jesus as their hope are made partakers of its saving power, in view of the coming storms.
v. How this Anchor holds.
i. It is “sure and steadfast” taking hold of the unseen and eternal.
V. OUR ANCHOR - JESUS

1. Jesus in the presence of God for us has made our standing sure, having entered by His own blood.

3. His anchor holds in the day of adversity when all around gives way.
4. It holds in the day of death.
5. It holds in the day of judgment, when the elements shall melt with fervent heat.”
6. Which hope we have as a present enjoyment.

APPLICATION: You can fell an anchor when the line strains under a tide.
An anchor will dig deeper every time a strain is put on it.
So then, the writer to the Hebrews changes the allusion from safety in the cities of refuge to a ship reaching harbor after a tempestuous voyage, know that her anchor is sure and steadfast.
So it is with the believer who has the hope of eternal life anchored saved in heaven.
Saved
To take hold of that anchor, not for salvation but to rest in during storms of life.
Sinner
Sinner friend, you need to flee for refuge; Do you see your need of an anchor?

Religion, tradition, house, family, money, land, reputation, “good life,” etc.
