Digital Balke

В 2014 году Художественный музей Северной Норвегии представил большое собрание картин мастера романтизма – Педера Балке (1804-1887). Вскоре, в качестве продолжения, музей выпустил цифровую инсталляцию, сделав акцент на пейзажных работах художника. Цель выставки – одновременно укрепить и противопоставить драматичный взгляд живописца на северные ландшафты.

Стиль картин Балке всегда рассматривался как связующее звено между традициями романтизма и модернизма. Таким образом, у него есть общие черты с современной электронной музыкой в изучении новых путей художественного самовыражения. Не случайно в качестве звукового сопровождения выставки была выбрана пьеса, написанная электронным музыкантом из Тромсё – Gaute Barlindhaug.

Картины Балке будут показаны на трех видеоэкранах как в полном объеме, так и детально, раскрывая тем самым тонкости техники живописца. Также на одном из экранов посетители смогут увидеть некоторые цитаты из автобиографии художника.

A large collection of works by Peder Balke (1804-1887), the master of romanticism,  was exhibited in the Northern Norway Art Museum in 2014. It was followed up by the digital installation focusing on the landscape works of the artist. The exhibition was striving to simultaneously reinforce and contrapose the painter’s dramatic vision of the northern landscape.

Balke’s style has always been regarded as the connecting link between the traditions of romanticism and modernism. Thus, discovering new ways of artistic self-expression is what makes him and contemporary electronic music alike. It is not a coincidence that a piece composed by the Tromso based electronic musician Gaute Barlindhaug was selected as an accompaniment for the exhibition.

Balke’s works will be displayed on three videoscreens. In order to unravel the subtlety of the artist’s technique, the enlarged fragments of his paintings will be shown as well as the paintings themselves. What is more, some of the quotes from the Balke’s autobiography will be displayed on one of the screens.
