A. Yesterday we took a Washington taxi and were surprised to discover that the
driver was 94. He told us he has been driving a cab since 1949. He previously
had other jobs, including working in the window dressing business and in the
Army mapping office. He also ran a tour business. "I feel good!" he said quite
proudly of his health. But he became upset talking about politics – not national
politics, but the politics of the taxi industry in the nation's capital.
B. One day, me and my cousins were gathering with other people in the square
demonstrating against corruption and ddenly one person in his car
– 2008 Hyundai-Elantra– attracted our attention and made all the people in the
square watch him “doing the magic". He drove his car while he wasn't sitting
behind the wheel. Unfortunately I couldn't see with my own yes, as I am shortsighted, but my cousin saw that the man was driving the car from the backseat!
C. Hilary Clinton was very hesitant about marrying Bill Clinton. Her biggest
concern was that her separate identity would be shadowed in face of Bill’s own
personal achievements. She declined his numerous offers of marriage until she
had failed the Washington DC bar exam. At that time Bill was moving to
Arkansas, where she finally chose to go with Bill instead of remaining in DC.
However Hillary soon gained great influence after her husband appointed her
to head the Task Force on National Healthcare.
D. John McCain has lived a little more than just interesting life. He is probably
most well-known for his time in the military. In 1967 during the Vietnam War
his plane was shot down, he was captured, and kept as a prisoner of war for 5
years. McCain has been a member of the senate for several terms and he also
was involved in a heated presidential race against George Bush in 2000.
McCain made many friends often standing up for those who were being bullied
by others. However this often led to conflicts with authority and he was often
disciplined to obey the rules.
E. Barack Obama was born in 1961. No other black American before him made it
true to become the president of the USA. His father was from Kenya and his
mother was a white American woman and grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Obama graduated from Columbia University and then Harvard law school and
served as a member of the Illinois State Senate from 1997 – 2004. Before
serving on the senate he worked as a part-time law associate and also taught
constitutional law part-time at the University of Chicago. He then was elected
to the United States Senate in 2004.
F. With the interest on Jill Price, the woman who could remember every detail of
her life since she was 14 years old, comes the story of Brad Williams, of
Wisconsin. The researchers are most impressed with the speed at which they
recall the events. Just give them a day, and ask about the events and
immediately both can rattle off a series of events in great detail, indicating
there is almost no calculation going on, it is just readily available in their mind.
Researchers have concluded that this phenomenon is associated with complex
thinking, not learning or memory.
G. Manuel Uribe was once the world record holder for the fattest man. Now
however, he is attempting to break another record, most weight lost. Uribe
once weighed 1/2 a ton. He has been confined to a reinforced bed for the last
6 years, however has still managed to lose 518 lbs since March 2006 from
dieting only. This effective diet consists of grapefruits, egg white omelets, fish,
chicken, vegetables and peanuts. Although he still is unable to walk, however
he is trying to get out of his house in time for his 43rd birthday next month.

In August 1619, the first twenty black slaves arrived on a small Dutch ship
