Unit Statement: In this unit, the student will learn about the lexical meaning of a word, differentiate between the direct and figurative value of words, and identify mono - and poly - semantic words.
Essential Outcomes: (must be assessed for mastery)
The Student Will define what the term ‘lexical meaning’ implies.
TSW differentiate between the direct and figurative meanings.
TSW recognize mono - and polysemantic word.
TSW explain the relation within the group of homonyms, synonyms, and antonyms.

The Student Will use different types of dictionaries to check the spelling, pronunciation, and meaning of a word.
TSW create sentences with homonyms, synonyms, antonyms.
TSW focus on grammatical meaning of a word (word as a part of speech; stem; ending functions).
TSW identify the communicative functions of a word, a phrase, a sentence.
TSW punctuate of simple sentences.
TSW write the dictations and summaries.
