Some people have a nickname.

To my mind Christmas is the best holiday of the year.

Diana - the People's Princess

Diana Spencer was born on the first of July 1961 in England. She had two older sisters and a younger brother. In childhood she liked games, swimming, running and dancing. She wanted to become a dancer. Besides she loved children very much and at the age of sixteen she worked in schools for very young children.

Diana became princess, when Prince Charles, the Queen's son, asked her to be his wife and they got married. They seemed to be a happy couple at first. They had two sons. They travelled a lot they worked a lot, they visited many countries together. But Diana was not quite happy because they did different things and Charles didn't understand her.

Why was Diana the most famous, the most beautiful, the most photographed woman in the world?

Why did she win the hearts of millions and millions of people in many countries? Why did so many people come to London to remember her when she died? Why did the car accident which took her life, become such a total shock to crowds of people? Why did people feel the need to be in London at the funeral?

Why did the tears and love at the funeral move the world?

The answer is so simple. Matthew Wall, a student at St. Michael's College in Burlington said: "She was such a lovely lady. She did so much for those people less fortunate that herself".

She was a kind woman. Hundreds of people talked about Diana's kindnesses. She liked ordinary people, though she was rich and had many rich friends. Wherever she was, she was always ready to lend a hand. She was devoted to the sick and the poor. She visited hospitals for people with AIDS and for lepers and wasn't afraid to touch them, talk to them, listen to them.

She worked on children's charities, and had teamed up with Hillary Clinton in an effort to ban landmines. And it's not only money, that she wanted to give people. She wanted to give them a part of her soul, to make them happy because she was unhappy herself. She wanted to give them love, because she needed love herself.

Rock stars (Sting, Elton John), pop singer George Michael, film stars and producers (Tom Hanks, Steven Spilberg, Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise) and other famous people were among her friends. But she had more friends among ordinary people.

Diana was seen many times in floods of tears, because of the pressures of her loveless 15-year marriage. It is not a secret that Diana was hounded and humiliated to the point of mental breakdown and was able to pull through only because she knew she had the love of the people to buoy her in her darkest hours.

She was, indeed, the People's Princess.

I am Jimmy. I like reading about ancient heroes, their actions are noble and brave. I am reading The Odyssey by Homer now. It`s great! This novel is about a hero from ancient Greece named Odysseus who fought in the Trojan War and was trying to return home. But a jealous goddess made him stay on her island… The book is full of adventures. It is thrilling! …read it! Today it is my favorite book. I know that Homer wrote one more epic poem. It`s The Iliad. I think I will read it.

My name is Kelly. I read widely but there are books I like best and I can read them twice or more times. Hotel by Arthur Hailey is one of them. I like thrillers and it is the sort of the book I like. Hailey was a master of thrillers, I couldn`t put it down until I was finished. I was afraid that the main hero would have to lose his job. But he solved all the problems and became the manager of the hotel. My father likes reading detectives and he is reading The client now. He says there is a lot of action. I think I will read it either.

I am Robert. My brother likes science fiction and my mother reads romances. I read nothing but detectives. Not long ago I read The Firm by John Grisham and liked it very much. I would recommend it to anyone. It is really thrilling. The story is full of mystery and secret crimes. And the main character is all alone against the crimes. It is not like Jane Eyre, many tears and few heroes.

Our solar system: Where we live

When you look at the sky at night you can see millions of stars, which are known as the Milky Way. Our Sun is one of the 100 billion stars in our galaxy. More than a million Earth-sized planets could fit into the Sun.

The Earth and the other planets in our solar system orbit the Sun and get light and heat from it. It takes eight minutes for light to travel from the Sun to Earth, five and a half hours for it to reach Pluto and more than four years to reach the next star, Alpha Centuria.

Each planet moves on its own orbit around the Sun. It takes the Earth one year to go around the Sun and it takes Pluto 248 Earth-years to do the same.

Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun. Venus spins the opposite way to the Earth, so the Sun rises in the west and sets in the east. The next planet is ours. It's the only planet that we know has life - maybe there is life on another planet but we don't know yet. Mars is like a bright red star. Jupiter is the biggest planet in our solar system and has fifteen more moons than the Earth. To reach it from the Earth you have to go through the asteroid belt that lies between Mars and Jupiter. Saturn looks beautiful with its coloured rings, but it is very cold and has lots of strong storms. The last three planets are Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Pluto is the farthest. They are all part of our slar system.
