Ladies and gentlemen! Good afternoon!

My name is Nazarov Dmitriy and I study in the seventh B form in Lyceum 6.

Слайд 2

Every day except Sunday I come to my lyceum and then go home passing the memorial sign “In this school 4 Heroes of the Soviet Union studied: , and ’.

Слайд 3

Vladimir Mihaylov was only 25 years old when he became the Hero of the Soviet Union.

Слайд 4

As a result I was so interested in getting more information about him and here it goes.

Слайд 5

Vladimir Mihaylov was born in Tambov on 2th December 1920 in the clerk’s family.

Слайд 6

He finished 7 classes of incomplete secondary school as he had to work. He worked at the hairdresser’s and studied at the air club.

Слайд 7

In April 1940 he began serving in the Red Army.

Слайд 8

In June 1941 he graduated from Egorevskaya military aviation school with the excellent qualification.  He was appointed as a pilot - instructor of the first flying course in the 20th Aviation school.

Слайд 9

However, his main dream to meet an enemy in the sky face to face came true only in spring 1943.

Слайд 10

From April 1943 to May 1945 he served in the 249 Aviation Department. First he was a pilot, then a chief pilot and later a flight commander.
He fought in the Northern Caucasus, Trans Caucasus, the 4th Ukraine and 2th Belarusian fronts. He took part in defense of Caucasus, in air battles on Kuban, liberation of Crimea and Belorussia, the West – Pomeranian and Berlin operations. Vladimir had not only a lot of psychological features such as bravery, courage and resourcefulness but also he was sometimes really daring and inventive. His main work was air intelligent service.

Слайд 11

One bright example was when he found large enemy forces which were crossing the Dnepr on 22 June 1944. His exact data helped to stop enemy’s forces.

Слайд 12

By May 1945 Vladimir Mihailov made 690 combat missions, including 610 flights of enemy forces’ intelligent service, 15 flights of  aircrafts attack’s support, 10 flights of taking photographs.

Слайд 13

In 113 air battles he  personally destroyed 8 enemy planes and 4 enemy planes with teammates.

Слайд 14

On 20th May 1946 for his brave and military valor he had shown in battles with enemy he was awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union. The commander of 2th Belorussian front Konstantin Rokossovskiy signed his reward list with the resolution: “He deserves the title of Hero of the Soviet Union…”
Unfortunately he didn’t hold his “Golden Star” in his hands.

Слайд 15

On 12th March 1946 he tragically died of electric shock.  He was buried in Kaliningrad. There is the street named in honour of Vladimir Mihailov in Kaliningrad.

Слайд 16

On 15th May 1946 he was awarded with the Order of Lenin.  He was also awarded with three Red Banner awards and the Orders of the Patriotic War of the 1th and 2th levels, and the Order of the Red Star.

Слайд 17

What other places are connected with Vladimir Mihaylov’s life in Tambov? Firstly, there’s an Aviation Club where he studied in Karl Marx Street. Secondly, the small street in the north of our city was named in his honor. It used to be called ‘Sovhoznaya’ but was renamed by the city administration in honour of the hero on the 16th April 1964.

Слайд 18

I’d like to finish my presentation with the poem ‘Peace’ by Amanda Bradley. I’d like all wars to be stopped everywhere.
Peace will come when people live
In friendship, side by side,
And cherish understanding
More than hatred, greed and pride.

Peace will come when people see
All people as the same,
And no one has to live in fear,
In ignorance, or shame.

Peace will come when people
Who are needy can reach out
For shelter, food, or love,
And no has to do without.

Peace will come when people
Learn to listen and to care
About the rights and dignity
Of people everywhere.

Peace will come when love and trust
And kindness know rebirth,
And on that day all people
Will rejoice in peace on earth.
