Midterm two includes ten cards. Each card contains three questions.

1.1 The general task for question one is “examine the following topic and express your own point of view”. List of possible questions for task one is the following:

1. What is the difference between text and discourse? Present different suggestions concerning this issue.

2. What is the structure of the IELTS essay type one – the description of scheme, table, graph, etc.? What instructions might be given to pass this task successfully?

3. Define the contemporary fields in the foreign study of literature.

4. Describe several contemporary teaching methods.

5. What is the cognitive approach to language learning and teaching?

6. Define the contemporary fields of postmodernism in the foreign literature.

7. Describe the main peculiarities of The Theatre of the Absurd.

8. Define the mail literary fields of modernism in the foreign literature.

9. Magical realism as a literary trend and its prominent features.

10. What is the structure of the TOEFL examination?

       1.2 List of possible questions for task two is the following:

1. When do we use future perfect and future continuous tenses? Define all the possible cases and give examples.

2. What tools can be used to describe habitual actions in English? What is specific about them? Provide your answer with examples.

3. What types of phrasal verbs are there in English? Define several groups of phrasal verbs and give examples.

4. What is the difference between “as” and “like”? How are they used? Give as many examples as you can.

7. Define the peculiarities of the second, third and mixed types of conditional sentences. Provide your answer with examples.

9. What modal verbs are used to express: a) obligation; b) possibility; c) permission; d) ability? Give examples.

10. What is the difference between state and action verbs?
