My favourite room is our kitchen. Pehaps the kitchen

2

is the most important room in many houses, but it is

3

particulary so in our house because it’s not only

4

where we cook and eat but it’s also the main

5

meeting place for family and freinds. I have so many

6

happy memories of times spent there: special

7

occasions such as homecoming or cooking Christmus

8

dinner; troubled times, whish lead to comforting

9

cups of tea in the middle of the night; odinary daily

10

events such as making breakfast on dark, cold winter

11

for our children, then sitting down to read the

12

newspaper with a hot mug of coffee. Whenever we

13

have a party, people go with their drinks to the

14

kichen. It always ends up the fullest and noisiest

15

room in the house.

It is not only in restuarants that foreign dishes

2

are replacing traditional British food. In every

3

supermarket, sales of pasta, pizza and fish and ships

4

are booming. Why has this happened? What is wrong

5

with the cooks of Britain that they prefere cooking

6

pasta or potatoes? Why do they choose to eat lasagne

7

insteed of shepherd’s pie? Why do they now like

8

cooking in wine or olive oil? But pehaps it is a good

9

thing. After all, this is the end of 20th century and we

10

can get ingridients from all over the world in just

11

a few hours. Anyway, wasn’t English food always

12

disgusting and tasteless? Wasn’t it always boiled to

13

death and swimming in fat? The answer to these

14

guestions is “No”. but to understand this, we have

15

to go back to before World War II.

11

have so many other bills. Resently, Ray sent £5.000

12

13

from a hurricane. Then came £5.000 in

15

So Ray has to work 14 hours a day.
