Text: “In a summer camp”.

Every year some of our students spend several months in a summer camp. They usually go to camp as soon as their classes are over. In camp our students have not only their rest but they also get practical knowledge of some subjects which they study in class.

Our camp is situated not far from S.- Petersburg. All our students live in tents. Every tent has some banks, a table and some benches. We have a canteen, a club and a library in our camp too. The day in the camp begins very early. We get up at 7 o’clock, do our morning exercises, wash, dress and have breakfast. All our students like sport very much. It is our favourite occupation in summer. Our camp has a very good stadium where we go in for all kinds of sports and games. We go in for light athletics, gymnastics, boxing, wrestling, play sport games. Not far from the camp there is a large field where we play football. We often take part in different contests against the teams of other camps. Near the camp there is a little lake and we go in for swimming there.

We also like our club. We often visit it in the evening and listen to interesting lectures or see new films there.

Today our camp is very good, but some years ago we had almost nothing in it. As for lectures we listened to them in the open air.

When the day in the camp comes to an end, the evening roll-call begins. Then the students wash and go to bed. Soon the whole camp is asleep.

Heroic deeds of the Russian people.

One day the students of our group decided to go on an excursion. We wanted to visit a former centre of our partisans. At the railway station Nina asked: "Where is Glebov? The train is leaving now. He will be late." "No, he will not", said Victor. And at that moment we saw Glebov running across the square. But he was running in the wrong direction. "Where are you running? Come here, quickly, we are waiting for you!" shouted the girls. Glebov joined his friends and we all jumped into the train. On the way Nina told us everything she knew about the village we were going to: "When the German fascists were approaching the village, the people organized a partisan rade Frolov was its commissar. Now he is the chairman of the Village Soviets. He will be waiting for us at the station." Comrade Frolov met us at the station, and we went to the forest, which was near the village. On the way Frolov told us about

the Heroic struggle of the partisans against the fascists. As we were passing a beautiful oak tree, he stopped and said:"Two brothers lie under this tree. One of them, Kolja Smirnov, was 18 years old, the other, Vasja, was only 15. They gave their lives for their country." "How did it happen?" Tamara Ivanova asked. "It happened one dark autumn night", answered Frolov. "We were standing now and waiting for Vasja Smirnov who was our runner. His brother Kolja was mining the railway line. Vasja came and reported that everything was ready. Soon we heard an explosion and the enemy train stopped. Jumping out of the train, the Germans opened fire. Our machine-guns began to work. The fight was short. The train and the fascists never reached the front, but in this fight we lost Kolja and Vasja." The students listened to Frolov's story with great interest. They spent several hours in that forest and all the way home they were speaking about the heroic deeds of the Russian people.
