Bakanova M. V. About the possibilities of The reflection of the peculiarities of future profession on the content of «Social informatics». The necessity of the introduction the subject «Social informatics» into the educational process to make it more professionally-oriented is grounded. The selection of the content for this subject is made. The main principals, methods of teaching and possibilities for the development of students’ information activity are determined.

A rapid development of informatization greatly influences nearly all spheres of our life and leads to social, economic, political and other changes in the society.

Having appeared in the form of mediatization and computerization, informatization has entered a new stage – intellectualization – a process of knowledge development and the development of peoples’ abilities of perception and creation of information which causes the increase of intellectual potential of the society (including the Artificial Intelligence).

НЕ нашли? Не то? Что вы ищете?

The intellectualization is becoming a widespread process, penetrating all areas of our life. It also contributes to the development of abilities of cognition and modeling of social processes on the basis of information technologies. These processes are studied by social informatics.

As a discipline and science it is mostly deeply described by such scientists and pedagogues as L. V. Astakhova, K. K. Kolin, N. I. Lapin, I. V. Sokolova and some others. For example, K. K. Kolin has grounded the theoretical aspects of social informatics as a science, and L. G. Nikolaeva has worked out the structure of the course “Social Informatics” for pedagogical universities [1].

Social informatics as a discipline is aimed not only at supplying a future specialist with the tools of mastering his professional activity, but also it contributes to the formation of the modern information world outlook and information culture of students.

According to these purposes the following theoretical aspects are worth learning at the university:

1. The role of information in the development of the society. The information approach to the history of civilization development.

2. The informatization of society as a global process. The stages of informatization of the society, perspectives and problems of its development.

3. Information technologies. Types and features of information technologies.

4. The informatization of education. Its purposes, stages, trends of development.

5. The information resources of the society.

6. A man’s role and place in the information society.

7. Information security.

These topics are considered to be basic ones for other disciplines, especially for those which are based on the students’ understanding of the dominating role of information and information processes in modern society.

Some of the main principles of teaching «Social informatics» are those of the applied directivity (mastering of IT-skills with the aim of its application in the necessary (applied) sphere of human activity or future profession) and the inter-subject integration (learning of IT-terms connected with the informatization of different spheres).

These principles are best seen in choosing the content of the practical (laboratory) works. For example, the students get acquainted with the possibilities of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point) and Internet-technologies to work out their own materials on the topic which is really important for them or for their future work.

Thus, having chosen the topic, the students start making an investigation on it. During it they work out their materials using such programs as:

– MS Word: questionnaires, inquiry forms, tests;

– MS Excel: tables, graphics, diagrams, interactive crosswords and puzzles for visual presentation the results of their investigation;

– MS Publisher: calendars, posters, booklets, visit-cards;

– MS Power Point: the presentation of the investigation results.

The summary of such work is a project which should be presented and stood up for it to other students.

Thus, the main methods of work are that of project, problematic-investigation method, and the method of unsupervised work.

Thanks to such kind of work we achieve not only training purposes, but also educational (the formation of computer literacy) and developing ones (the development of such personal abilities as analysis, synthesis, comparison, motivation to the investigation of socially important tasks).

As a result of learning of social informatics the students should know: the content and regularities of informatization of the society, the peculiarities of the informatization of education, the purposes of information security; the students will be able to: determine the content of informatization of the society and use this knowledge in creating their own projects, analyze, value and generalize possible consequences of the further informatization of the society; the students should understand: the problems and perspectives of the development of social informatics as a science, and the social-pedagogical aspects of informatization of the society.

Having analyzed the peculiarities of studying the students of economic and pedagogic faculties it has been discovered that their educational process (especially 1-3 courses of studying) doesn’t contain the situations which help the students to understand the role and place of information technologies in the future professional activity.

Social informatics is just such an inter-discipline which helps the students realize the determining role of information and information processes in future profession and in the modern society in the whole.

Thus, the introduction of “Social informatics” is considered to be necessary at the economic, pedagogic and other humanitarian faculties to increase the quality of students’ training and the development of their orientation in new social-economic and information conditions.
