T. What big and happy holiday do people in America, Great Britain and many other countries celebrate on the 25th of December?

(ответ ученика)

T. The theme of our lesson is Christmas. I’d like to create the atmosphere of a holiday at our lesson. We have guests today: parents and teachers. They want to know how English people celebrate Christmas. Will you tell them about this holiday, please?

НЕ нашли? Не то? Что вы ищете?

2. Монологические высказывания учащихся о праздновании Рождества.

The 25th of December is Christmas Day. It's a happy holiday for many people in different countries.

Some weeks before Christmas English people are busy. They send greeting cards to all their relatives and friends. You can buy Christmas cards or you can make them. Many children make their cards at school.

People buy a Christmas tree and decorate it with toys, coloured balls and little coloured lights.

On Christmas Eve people put their presents under the tree. When children go to bed, they put their stockings near their beds.

At night Father Christmas comes. He has got a big bag of presents for children. He puts the presents into the children's stockings.

Every year there is a very big Christmas tree in the centre of London, in Trafalgar Square. This is a present from the people of Norway to the people of Great Britain. They send it to Londoners every year and Londoners decorate the Christmas tree.

In the evening before Christmas people like to come to Trafalgar Square to look at the tree. On Christmas Eve the streets in London are decorated, too.

The shops are very busy at Christmas. People want to buy presents for their family and friends (for their nearest and dearest). And they buy a lot of food and drink for all the Christmas parties.

People open their presents on Christmas morning and they all are happy with what they get.

For Christmas lunch people eat turkey, potatoes and green vegetables. Then they have the Christmas pudding. At five o'clock it's time for tea and Christmas cake.

On Christmas people wish their nearest and dearest a merry Christmas.

The day after Christmas is Boxing Day. People usually visit their relatives and friends. They do not work on that day. [1]

T. Look at the table, please. What symbols of Christmas can you see? (A Christmas tree, candles, bells)

T. What night was it yesterday, before Christmas? (ответ учащихся)

T. And now look at the poster. Who is he?

On Christmas Eve Santa Clause climbs down the Chimney and brings presents only to good children. Santa Clause comes from the name St. Nickolas, who was very kind to children.

3. T. Now imagine Christmas Eve in the English family. A group of students will role play.

Mum. What are you doing now?

Alice. I am making a Christmas card for aunt Mary. I’d like to wish her a Merry Christmas. Have a look! Is it nice?

Mum. Yes, it’s lovely.

Alice. Oh, Mum. You look terrific! What a lovely apron on you!

Mum. Thanks. It’s a Christmas present from Moscow, Russia.

Alice. Our pen-friends from America have sent us beautiful Christmas cards.

Mum. I have already cooked the Christmas pudding and the turkey. Will you help me to decorate the Christmas cake?

Alice. Yes, I will with great pleasure.

Dad. I have put the Christmas tree. Tom, Kat, let’s decorate it.

Tom, Kate. We’d love to.

Tom. Daddy, where are the toys?

Dad. They are in the box on the table.

Kate. I’ll put this coloured ball on the tree.

Dad. Kids, put your stockings near your beds. At night Father Christmas will come. He will put presents into your stockings.

Tom, Kate. For sure. Good night, Daddy.

Dad. God night.

4. Аудирование учащимися текста «Christmas» (используется кассета к учебнику Верещагина 2).

T. Now you will listen to the text «Christmas». Be ready to answer my question. Look at the blackboard and copy the names, please. While the listening of the text write down the key word, telling what each member of the family is doing.

Christmas

It's 8 o'clock in the evening on Christmas Eve. People are happy, but they are busy too. There's a lot of work to do.

The Phillips are at home. What are they all doing?

Emma is going to bed now. She's hanging up her stocking for Father Christmas. She's thinking of the presents under the tree. She wants to open all the presents now. But she can't. She can open them only in the morning.

And what is Mark doing? He's taking a shower. He's going to a party.

And what about Jane? What is she doing? She's putting the last Christmas cards on the table in the hall.

Mr Phillips is putting all the presents under the Christmas tree. He's thinking about his busy day. Parents always have a lot of work at Christmas.

And where is Mrs Phillips? In the kitchen of course! The Christmas pudding and the turkey are on the table. And now she's making the Christmas cake and decorating it.

So you can see that all the people in the family are busy on Christmas Eve.

And for Father Christmas it's a busy day too. He wants to visit many families and give children Christmas presents. [2]

Его привычно старые мотивы

И вольные и нежные слова,

Слова, что в памяти народной живы,

О мире на земле и счастье для людей.
