I hope you are feeling well today. We are going to talk about music. It is difficult to live without music. We hear music everywhere: in the streets, at home, over the radio, on TV, in the shops, in the parks & in the concert halls. We can't live without music. We like to listen to music, we enjoy dancing to music, we play musical instruments. We listen to different sorts of music: it depends on our mood. Music conquers our hearts. Enriches our feelings, makes us think of people & places we love. It can evoke long forgotten events & feelings we thought we forgot. Music plays a great role in our life. There is a rich world of music around us. Today our lesson is devoted to music. It will have a form of a verbal journal & consist of some pages:
· “A musical tour of Britain”
· “Some facts from the modern history of music”
· “World famous musicians”
· “Are you a good audience?”
· “The music you listen to”
II. “A musical tour of Britain” (first page)
Will you come to the front, ______? Open our first page “A musical tour of Britain.”
Ученик (по карте – монолог – 3 мин.): In Britain there are strong local traditions of music that are still alive centuries later. Scotland, for example, is the home of bagpipe music. The sound of the bagpipes is very stirring. The old Highland clans & later the Highland regiments used to go into battle to the sound of the bagpipes. Since 1947 in Edinburgh an annual festival of music & drama is held in August & September at various centres of Edinburgh. Since 12th century in Wales an annual Welsh national bardic festival of music, literature & drama is held during the first week of August. Its formal title is the Royal National Eisteddfod. It is conducted in Welsh. The International Music Eisteddfod – a festival of folk-dancing & music – is held every July at Llangollen, North Wales. It is conducted in English. There's another famous town – Alderburgh – a town on the Suffolk coast of England where a musical festival is held every summer. This festival was started by Benjamin Britten – a famous English master of vocal music of all kinds. He began writing music as a child; later in life he wrote a great deal of music for young people. London has a long tradition of classical music. The Promenade Concerts are probably the most famous. They were first held in 1840 in the Queen's Hall, & were directed by Sir Henry Wood. They still continue today in the Royal Albert Hall. They take place every night for about 3 months in the summer. The programmes include new & contemporary works, as well as classics. Among them are symphonies & other pieces of music. Liverpool is the third largest city in Britain. It is the world known place as the hometown of the Beatles. The Beatles changed pop music forever. Their records were consistently top of the pop music charts.
III. “Some facts from the modern history of music”(second page)
Now listen to the text & write down the sorts of music. What sorts of music shall I read about? But first look at the blackboard: there are two new words – tough, rush
IV. “World famous musicians” (third page)
You know or you've heard the names of many foreign & Russian composers, musicians, conductors. Can you remember any of them? Their portraits will help you! Some of the famous musicians lived in our region. Do you know any of them, ______?(возможный ответ в течение 1 мин:
They were Degtyarev Alexander Anikiyevitch & Lomakin Gavriil Yakimovitch. They were composers, singers & conductors. Degtyarev was born in 1766 & Lomakin – in 1812 in serf's families in Borisovka. They both were singers in the count Sheremetev's chapel. Degtyarev is best known for his first Russian opera “Minin & Pozharskii” & Lomakin is remembered for 40 songs & romances, for his sacred music. Festivals of choral music held in Belgorod are devoted to our famous musicians.)
V. “Are you a good audience?” (forth page)
I see you remember many famous Russian & foreign composers, you know some of their works. And I like to invite you to a short classical concert. The composer's name is Tchaikovsky Peter Ilyich. You'll listen to his “Waltz of flowers”. I hope this beautiful music will provoke your feelings. But please be a good audience! Remember about the things you shouldn't do during a concert!
What feelings did this music provoke? (возможный ответ – 1 мин: When I listened to this music it pictured in my mind a beautiful summer day. It made me think of happy days. This classical music enriches our hearts & feelings. “The waltz of flowers” is sometimes romantic & soft, sometimes – passionate & catchy. But it is fascinating & unforgettable. I think classical music can make us better. And soon it will conquer the rest of the world.)
What musical instruments did you hear? (учащиеся – 1 мин: violin, violoncello, flute, harp)
What other musical instruments do you know? Fill in the missing letters to complete the names of the instruments & of the people & match them to the pictures.
