About Myself (1)

My name is Anna Smirnova. I am sixteen years old. I was born on the 11th of May 1985 in Valuiky. It is a small town in Belgorod region. It is situated on two rivers: the Valui and the Oskol. You can see a lot of wonderful places and beautiful landscapes here in summer and spring.

There are some places to go to: a museum, a cinema, a park, a sport complex, a palace of culture, five libraries, a lot of cafes e t s.

I have lived in Valuiky since my childhood. My parents and my brother also live here.

My father`s name is Sergei Ivanovich. He is a strong tall man of forty-five. He is energetic and confident. He works in a bank as a programmer. He loves his work very much because it is well paid and really interesting.

My mother`s name is Olga Anatolyevna. She is two years younger than my father. So, she is forty-three. She is pretty and kind-hearted. She is short and slim. My mother is a housewife. She takes care of the family and does everything to make our house cozy and comfortable. I think she is the best mum in the world because she is my best friend. I can turn to her any time when I`ve got some troubles and she is always ready to listen to my opinion.

I love and respect my parents because they are the closest and the dearest to my heart people. They are ready to help and teach me everything I ask them for. I feel that I am a lucky girl to have such nice parents.

I have a brother. His name is Anatoly. He is twenty-two and he is a student of Belgorod University. He is going to be a lawyer. Anatoly looks like our father: he has got his grey eyes and brown hair. He is as tall as our father. Anatoly is cheerful, friendly and trustworthy. We get along with my bother and love each other.

НЕ нашли? Не то? Что вы ищете?

I am a sociable person, that`s why I have got a lot of friends. We meet and talk about everything we are interested in: music, fashion, boys, teachers and so on. We are never bored together because we are always engaged in some activity: we attend different sport clubs, work on a computer, read books and press, watch and discuss different films.

I have finished the 9th form this year. I was a success during my final exams because I studied well. But English, chemistry and mathematics were my favourite subjects. I have always been keen on cooking and I`d like to be a good cook in my future life. I hope that my dream will come true and I will become a pro. Some day I would be able to go to a foreign country on an exchange program and the knowledge of English language would help me to communicate with other people.

About Myself (2)

Let me introduce myself. I am Maria Sokolova. I am sixteen. I live in the village of Koloskovo. People say that I am a pretty girl: I have got big blue eyes and long fair hair, but I try to colour my hair in red because my horoscope tells me to do it. My star sign is a lion and I have decided to do this experiment to attract good luck. So, as you can see, I am cheerful, funny and have a good sense of humour. I am optimistic about everything. I believe that all people must live in harmony and love each other.

I want to tell you a few words about my family. We are four: my parents, my Granny and me. My father`s name is Valery Igorevich and my mother`s name is Svetlana Vladimirovna. My parents are both forty-two years old. My father is a retired ex-military man. My mother works in the kindergarten as a nanny. My Granny`s name is Marya Ivanovna. She is sixty-seven years old and she is a retired person. I love my family and try to help my parents about the house as often as I can. I have got a lot of other relatives in many parts of our country and abroad. We often visit each other. I think that it is a good reason for traveling and discovering new places. I enjoy it.

I am not a tall girl, but I like playing volleyball very much. I sometimes take part in sports competitions.

I also enjoy reading detective stories. My favourite writer is Agatha Cristie.

I am in the 11th form of a secondary school. At the end of this school year I will have to pass my exams and I am a bit scared about it because these will be my first, important for my future life, exams. But I hope that everything will be all right because I study well. There are a lot of interesting subjects in my timetable this year, but English and mathematics are my favourite.

After finishing school I`d like to go on studying at a university and get a good knowledge of my future profession. I want to be an economist. I cannot say that my future profession is going to be very easy. It requires a specific mentality and a lot of special skills. I will study different subjects: economic policy, economic systems, trade, marketing, banking and other important matters. I think economics will teach me a new way of looking at the world. I hope that my choice of profession is right.

Problems of Modern Towns, Cities and Villages

There are a lot of modern cities, towns and villages in our country. They have their beauty and cultural peculiarities, but there are some problems as well. They are ecological, social and cultural problems.

There are a lot of industrial enterprises in our cities and towns. Plants and factories put their waste materials into water and atmosphere and pollute the environment. There are many kinds of transport in our big cities, that`s why we must pay attention to the protection of our nature and health of people.

Unemployment is one of the biggest social problems. Now a great number of factories have closed and thousands of people have no work. Some villages have died out because people left them. Russian countryside is very beautiful and romantic but our villages have a lot of troubles. In some of them there are no hospitals, shops, schools and cultural places. The transport service is often very poor. Some villages are from tens km away from any big city. The buses are often late and sometimes they never arrive at all. For many people there is a problem to get to work to the nearest town. Some people have to go to town to buy food, because they don’t have a shop in their place. So, a lot of people have moved to the new towns where industries are more developed and living conditions are more acceptable.

Arriving at a new place people often face other problems. It’s rather difficult to find a new job, salary is also poorly paid and there’s a problem of violence in modern towns and cities. A society cannot suggest anything worthwhile for teens. That’s why they are rebellious. Crime for teens is an expression of their inability to join in society.

We can’t name all the problems that cities and villages face now. But I think all people must join their efforts to improve the situation in our country, in its towns, cities and villages.

Young People’s Problems

Being young can really be hard sometimes, especially when there is no grown up people who could understand our needs and problems. Young people face serious problems nowadays: violence, teen pregnancy and AIDS cases are increasing. More and more teens are turning to drugs and alcohol. These things combined with personal problems make being a teenager very difficult. A lot of teenagers say that their parents let them do anything they want and they are quite indifferent to their troubles. Many teenagers get upset or depressed when they can’t solve their problems. As a result, it makes them believe that there is only one way out – to stop living and commit suicide.

No doubt, teen’s problems have increased. Young people should feel that they are cared for. To protect children’s rights the UNO has worked out an international agreement called “the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child”.

It gives children different rights:

-  the right to non – discrimination, leisure, protection, education and development;

→ to live

→ express their views

→ meet other people

As for me, I try to enjoy my teens. I focus more attention on doing my work, on self-education than on going to the discos. My friends and I usually have fun just being around each other. We enjoy discussing humorous things. On the other hand, we talk about serious matters, like politics, education. We try to help each other if we can.

While some teens see only problems in growing up, others try to find the ways to cope with them. They join different clubs, find a part time job, have exciting hobbies, visit museums, galleries, travel. I think young people should be engaged in an interesting activity. It helps to forget your troubles and take them easy.

Travelling

Modern life is impossible without travelling. Thousands of people travel every day either on business or for pleasure. They can travel by air, by rail, by sea or by land. Of course travelling by air is the fastest and the most convenient way, but it is the most expensive too. Travelling by train is slower than by plane, but it has its advantages. You can see much more interesting places of the country you are travelling through. Modern trains have very comfortable seats. There are also sleeping cars and dining cars which make even the longest journey enjoyable. Speed, comfort and safety are the main advantages of trains and planes. That is why many people prefer them to all other means. Travelling by sea is very popular. Large ships and small river boats can visit foreign countries and different places of interest within their own country.

As for me, I prefer travelling by car. I think it’s very convenient. You needn’t reserve tour tickets. You needn’t carry heavy suitcases. You can stop wherever you wish, and spend at any place as much time as you like.

Every year my friend and I go to the seaside for holidays. The Black Sea is one of the most wonderful places which attracts holiday-makers all over the world. There are many rest-homes, sanatoriums and tourist camps there. But it is also possible to rent a room or a furnished house for a couple of weeks there. Sometimes we can place ourselves in a tent on the sea shore enjoying fresh air and the sun all day long.

As a rule, I make new friends there. In the day time we play volleyball, tennis, swim in the warm water of the sea and sunbathe. In the evening I like to sit on the beach watching the sea and enjoying the sunset. I’m fond of mountaineering. So, I do a lot of climbing together with my friends. Time passes quickly and soon we have to make our way back. We return home sunburned and full of impressions.
