THE SUCCESS STORY

1. ORANGE COMPUTERS is a multinational computer manufacturer based in the US and Switzerland. The Head Office is in Switzerland, and there are offices in the US, UK, Germany and Italy. It started in 1969, with a small factory in Bern. The company produced small electronic components for the first few years, but it moved into the computer market in 1974. Orange Computers invested a lot of money in research, and soon became a market leader.

2. In the seventies, the company developed several new computers, including some very successful minicomputers. After the birth of the microcomputer in the USA, Orange Computers was one of the first European companies to develop a micro for business use. They launched their first micro, the MC126, in 1981, and sold over 50, 000 units.

3. In 1990, the company started manufacturing personal computers. Last year Orange Computers introduced the RX128 processor, and this year they are going to launch a new range of Orange notebooks.

4. Another spectacular growth story is that of Apple Computer. Apple began its life with Steven Jobs and Stephen Wozniak, two students at Stanford University in the United States, who worked in a garage.

5. They bought a few components and produced the world’s first commercially successful personal computer, the Apple. From that modest start, apple computer has grown into a giant. Two-thirds of all firms are operated by their owners, as Apple once panies, like Apple today, account about 90 per cent of all business sales.

The Internet has already revolutionised the way we live and work. But these are still early days for the Internet. We don't know how much it is still changing the world. The Internet era is yet to come. The Internet is an up-to-date wonder. As the proverb says: "nothing is wonderful, when you get used to it", that is why the Internet fails to astonish us any more.
